How much can you bench? How strong is EF!

How much can you bench?

365 lbs x 8x4x1 rest pause set. I might try and see what my max is next week but I am a little scarred because of my shoulder issues. Thanks to D.e.c.a I have none at the moment however ;)

I have no idea, lol

bench press is NOT where strength is at.... DEADLIFTS are:evil:

Homegirl has a point and with that being said... I just did 550 lbs. for 1 rep max 2 days ago. Still feeling it today hahaha. Truth be known I almost didn't make it but I had the homies cheering me on so I locked it in thanks to them.

True true, im just seeing where everyones bench is. I believe deads and squats are more important, bench press does play the most important role in upper body development though. Its a great exercise

One of these guys i actually dont like just stopped benching because he says all it is is a "dick measuring" contest. What a pussy, has no idea what working out is all about. Hes just sayin it probably because his bench sucks.

well, he is partly right, no one goes around asking people how much they deadlift, hell, I never see anyone in my gym do it but me, and then there are the doods that curl in the squat rack, but of course every Sunday through Saturday every bench is taken.

Best ever 405 in single ply at 198 lbs

Most ever raw 315. This was also around the time I was pressing in gear.

I'm not doing any flat benching in my current routine and it's been a long while since I've maxed. I would say I currently I could rep 275 for a double or triple max.

I am doing sets of 8 with 70 pounds added to dips for my main upper body press exercise at the moment though  This seems to be the only lift besides chins/pull ups that is increasing on my diet.

A kid at my gym tried 315 the other week and got buried in the process. Me and my buddy had to pull it of his chest. When he stood up he said "I don't get it. The 1RM online calculator said i could do 315 for 1". Yeah, we LOL.

lol

Yeah I should have posted my thoughts on this as well.....Most 1 rep max calculators are BS. I would not blindly max based on them.

lol

Yeah, closest thing ive come to a real 1RM calculator was more of a chart.

Something like:
135- 12
205- 10
245- 8
275- 4
295- 2
305- 1
I made those numbers up cuz its been so long since ive seen the chart. but its close i think. lol
If you could do said sets then your 1RM was something like 325-335.

The guys i trained with using that chart were no fucking joke either, 315 for 8-10. 365 for for 4. 405 for 1 raw. And on occasion a couple of them got buried with that 405!

They would fuck with me when i first started training with them and act like 315 got stuck, then rep it out like 6 more times lol

4 years ago 5'8" 285lbs benched 405 3x, but I was pressing gear hard then.

Now at 218lbs can press 275 x 18 and 315 x 8 no gear

I would like to try more weight, but I'm nervous since i workout alone.

Bench press is all about the "chesticles" Mark rippetoe word (chesticles)

How much can you press over your head while standing OHP, that is more impressive to me. That deadlift and squat. Unfortunately it seems bench press is always the most popular lift, and the one to brag about.

I suck at bench.

195x10 @ 195
210x6 @ 195
225x3 @ 195

I'm much better at squat and dead

Squat

box - 315x17
315x6
225x20
275x12

Dead

405x9
435x5
455x3
475x1

Everything is at 195 or so.

I wanna say 335 even though i haven't done it yet. I have done 315 for a tripple with 10lbs less bodyweight and alot less strength. I just dont bench as it is not that important to my training.

Going for 450 today at 220lbs. We will know in about an hour. Feel good. Blowed 440 up 2 weeks ago, don't think it will be a problem.

I haven't maxed for a while on this either. I can get roughly 335 for some reps though.

as was said before though, IMHO, the bench is the worst measurement of functional strength. The only ones who really can use a big ben are maybe NFL lineman, and then it still is about the legs and back.

That is a great number from a PLer point of view. It's not much less than a typical Ed Coan press.

Great work!

How many reps of your bodyweight can everyone here do? I just today did 10, but I think there's prolly people here that can rape me in that but just wondering...

Edit:

Oh and that's a predicted max of 260. I weigh 195...

Everybody's turning powerlifter!

LOL. Maybe GL started something here with this thread.
I am watching Kevin Levrone's DVD, Maryland Muscle Machine, and all of his lifts (when going heavy) are all the the 4 to 6 range. For example, his flat bench work starts off with 225x8, 315x6, 405x5, and ends with 500x4 and that's it for flat. He does other exercises but the heavy stuff stay in the low rep range. For that matter, so are Ronnie's heavy lifts and the real heavy stuff is just 1 rep so I guess it aint all that bad to lift heavy in the low rep range.

ya, Ronnie may do a bunch of isolation BB type stuff, but he still trains the core lifts hard. Heavy deads, Squats etc. His youtube videos are always funny and impressive to watch at the same time.

yea his lifts are fricken nuts! I was watching a vid were Brian said that if he wanted to he could maybe be one of the world's best powerlifters too. I would def agree. His lifts are ( from what I can think of ) something like 495x5 bench, 800x2 squat, 800x2 dead. Also a 2300 leg press x7. Without specifically training for those lifts and raw ( except squat ) that's some huge numbers if you consider what it would be like if he had trained for a PL meet.

+1

havent tested a 1rm bench in two years. i could put up 225x3 back then. no idea. i'd say at least 255x1

Can anyone explain why people in videos arch their back HELLA and just touch the arched part? So it goes down like 6 inches and also bring it down SLOW as hell?

You just answered your own question. The arched back allows for a shorter distance and also you are able to incorporate more muscle groups in addition to the chest muscles to aid in the pressing of the weight. It's a powerlifting aproach to benching.

That seems more like cheating....At least the shorter distance...

its cheating to anyone that works out like a bodybuilder, but the powerlifters only goal is to get it up, doesnt matter how.

kinda stupid imo but im not one to talk, it takes lots of dedication to be hella strong and i wouldnt want to pick a fight with any

Lol I would not want to get any kind of punch from one of those guys... sheesh! I would probably explode like a tomato from the blow.

LOL the power of a punch is not determined by how much a guy Benches !

Its determined by how much he deadlifts?

lol jk

i really want to learn MMA so when the guy who thinks hes a badass wants to fight, thinking im just a bodybuilder and i dont know how to fight, i can throw him a 1-2 knock the fuck out!

LOL the power of a punch is not determined by how much a guy Benches !

I think it has a big factor into it. Sure technique is a big factor also but if you're only benching 135 how bad could those hits hurt?

On topic sorta. How reliable are bench press calculators? I put in 225x10 because thats my goal for the end of the month and they said my 1RM would be 299. My goal is 300ish where I'll feel accomplished.

Hmmm... a few years ago I hit 455 for a single--- good, clean, bodybuilding style. HOWEVER.... I got burned out and after about 2.5 years of not stepping a foot inside a gym I am trying to get back into the habit and start gaining back the strength and 30 or so lean lbs I've lost. So RIGHT NOW I probably bench more like 225 lol.

You'll be shocked just how quickly you'll get your strength back. It's actually pretty funny to see it happen and people will accuse your of juicing but the truth is, muscle memory is no joke and fast. You'll be pushing/pulling big numbers soon just make sure to use proper technique and what ever you do, listen your your joints. If they start to hurt, back off.

You are a big mother fucker!

A small arch in the back is proper benching form. As long as your ass/ hips are still on the bench you are ok. Some people you will see raising their ass off the bench which is not good.

My PB is 455lbs x 1 rep

I do 12 reps with 315 lbs.

You are a big mother fucker!

Thank you gladiator. You got me on the 6 pak by a country mile though broski haha.

I am up to 405 lbs. for 7 reps and inlcine bench is up to 365 lbs for 6 reps. seated shoulder press in also 365 lbs. but only for 4 reps and deads are up 560 lbs for 1 rep. I almost passed out doing that deadlift but I got that fucker up and i almost shit myself in the process as well. Oh the crap we do to entertain ourselves HAHA.

haha yea well i was 95lbs freshm an year in highschool wasnt hard to keep a 6 pack lol put on some mass for me is a different story

you seated shoulder press is ridiculous! I call BS  hahaha

And you know you gotta entertain yourself and everyone else when you pull that much weight off, flex in the mirror and take a look around at everybody and everyone knows youre the alpha male haha

LOL! Serious bro, I'll see if I can get one of the homies to take a pic while I am lifting that weight.
As for the flexing, I can't bring myself to do it. I have a couple of buddies in the gym that dwarf me, (one of the is a workout partner to and Olympia finalist) and he ever saw me do that he would totally kick my ass and clown me for the rest of my life.
Actually Alcz is super strong too in that deparment. He's probably one of the strongest guy in the forum and for his weight, he's one of the strongest guys period.

I am about to post some videos of my form for bench, squat, deadlift, db press and db military.

LOL @ flexing, thats all i do in the gym. If someone is bigger i lay off it a little, but for the most part me and my buddy sometimes just go to the best mirror and flex. Cant flex in a mirror that makes you look smaller, just makes you more mad but i guess that would help with your lifts lol

Alcatraz is a monster, you are too. Im a skinny monster haha

Maxed out at 405lb for 1 rep and that was at 170lb a few years ago. Havent maxed out since my injury or since i gained more muscle. Deads were at 465 for 10 reps, never maxed out. And my squats were at 465 for 8reps.

right now i weight 195lbs my 1rep is 345lbs (no calculator lol) ill be happy when i get up 4 plates n still be under 2hun
you made it a big jump in the poll 335-375 its going to be a min before i can update

damn fool im 193 you look 210 at least. Im tryin to put up 375 after my test/anadrol/deca cycle. 405 would be sick!

and maybe thats why you only DL 315 ;) lol j/k bro

As for benching my long term goal (as in, I wana do this in my lifetime) is to to bench 500lbs for a few reps raw, I dont care if my ass comes off the bench it would still be sick, like the guy is doing at 0.53 of this video. Although Im not built for bench Iv got longer arms so I might have to drop that down to 405, lol :D

lololol shut the fuck up! you saw me put it up 5 times with the shittiest form ever lol.

In case you were wondering i deloaded to 275x5. Should be enough of a drop for me to start gaining with perfect form.

And yea i was around 100lbs my freshman year. 160 when i graduated. 195 now! 6 years i gained 100lbs lol

What year is freshman year?

Your at 275? whens your next DL day? next wednesday?

im a short fukr only 5ft6 so thats where some of my weight is and also i have a jacked up knee i cant squat so theres a few more pounds, keeping me under 2....oh ya did i mention that avatar pic of mines old as hell lol...ya i seen your cycle posted you will be catching me i suspect...you going to throw in some dostinex or somthing for the deca?

em - yea next wednesday ill post up my video of it. did u see my 315 for 5 this week? gstacker yes I'm going to get dostinex. I'm confused about anadrol though? what gyno is from anadrol? anyway I had no gyno signs on test.dbol.tren so I know I won't have estro issues. ill get dostinex though.

My DL day is on tuesday, I dont know whether to keep the 5 reps and go for 280 or bump it up to 286 (130kg) and just go for 3...

Yeah I saw the 315 video  Ill be there soon though :supercool

Go for the 5 since the heavier it is the shittier your form will be.

youll be there way soon brotha. And my video kinda shows bad form. Idk everyone i talk to says it isnt bad, but its not perfect either.

Most ever was 265x1 when I weighed 230lbs.

Now I'm at 211lbs and I can do 205x5. Not sure how much I can do for 1rep max, but probably 225-235.

I hate bench though. I can barely wipe my ass the next day after a heavy benching session. I prefer overhead press and dips, but I still do the bench.

lolol. bro your doing 275 x 5 tomorrow for your max set on 5x5. today I did 281 x 5...

I meant fixed for me lol. I am gonna do them leaning more forward and not sitting down like a squat. Its too uncomfortable for me to try and "squat" the weight up. I just got to keep my back straight still. Ill be doing them tmr and if 275 is easy ill be going back up to 315.

keep it up bro, thats a beastly dl. Jus work on your bench!

i hope 275 isnt easy

yeah im shit at bench, most i ever did was 187 x 4 but i was using some PL techniques, and on my 5th rep my shoulder buckled and I was out of all upper body stuff for a month or so after. Then with a flat back on the bench I got up back up to 160 x 5 I think and now Iv changed to Db flat and BB incline.

my bench is sadly my weak point. i could 2 rep 325. i could probably get it a bit higher but dumbbells put the size on my chest so much better so i dont do it often

I noticed that too a few months back so I decided to stop with the heavy benching and sure enough, my chest has been growing by leaps and bounds; to the point where I have some serious stretch marks now. I came back to flat bench today and was able to do three sets of 6 reps with 365 lbs and 315 lbs on incline but the stress on my shoulders was a bit unconfortable although not as bad as it used to be. I think I'll stick to dumb bells for good from now on. For some reason more size is the major benifit of doing dumb bells work.

205 bench

I weigh 170 pounds but I've only been working out for about 8 months and just turned 17

Deadlift 335

Squat 285
Also, I just started squat and deadlift, so I'm increasing quick (hopefully):supercool

Another thing I am noticing about creating a larger chest is the importance of dips. When I stopped doing heavy bench worked I switched over to dips and that exercise is creating a fuller and more shapely chest.
For shits and giggles I put on 4 wheels per side on the ol bench and squeezed out 2 reps, barely I might add and I am paying for it now. Damn shoulders are buggin big time.

Haha, yeah man... it'll happen eventually to you too but in the mean time, get big so you can have an excuse for those achie shoulders ;)

AS like a lot of other members here, i havnt tried to max in a while cuz the shoulder thing but i can three rep 250 at 5/7 170lbs...Ill probly catch some shit 4 this but chest has always been my strong point but i dont like to push it as heavy as i could out of fear of injury..

My lil bro takes the cake in my eyes tho.....15 years old, 5/8 140lbs solid, put up 260 for 1 rep usin nothin but protein powder..Little fucker blew me out the water when i was 15....lol
