I disagree that blood family takes precedence over "REAL" esse's.........those people who you meet throughout your life and you come to an understanding with, those are your REAL family. Blood is simply an accident of birth.

Everyone I know has not just been affected by family members, but had their lives permanently altered in not so good ways. Family is on the surface this "great thing".......yet underneath it is the major shaping force of your entire life. Nobody should have that kind of sway over you. I can't prove it obviously, but everyone here has been negatively affected by family in some way shape or form. I know too many people that have had their lives completely addled by the dynamic of their families. I stand by my conviction that people who grow up more or less on their own become "mentally" the strongest people. I've seen it too much that way to ignore it. All the people I know who have these strong enmeshed families..........fucked up in some way shape or form. It's ridiculous. And those shit dynamics get passed on from one generation to the next.......utterly ridiculous. Your association with these people is simply an accident of birth, no more no less.

The strongest women I've ever met were single moms. The "delinquent" kids were always part of male/female household.......

Bro, I said in my post that real family does not only include direct family members and relatives. I alos said that yes, they would take a bullet for me and have my back. I've taken beatings and a knife and bailed out more family and friends than I can remember. I've almost died a few times because I took responsibility for family and friends. On the street, in the real world, all you got is those who got your back, and those are FAMILY.

You may have a point about how it once was.........but it ain't like that no more. Nowadays family just means you can't step boundaries with people and not face the repercussions you would with strangers.

But you are comparing something that's very, very old (evolutionary) with something that contemporary (i.e. several hundred or even a few thousand years). We're wired evolutionarily to feel drawn to and support our relatives. You can't expect to feel rational when immediate family is involved. I think your older brain kicks-in and draws you into compromises that your new brain would never accept.
