do muscles grow when you rest?

Hi bros, most personal trainers suggest not work out 7 days a week, they say your muscles grow when you are resting not when you are lifting
how is that? if you don't mind explain that to me?
 
the simplest explanation is this:

when you lift weights you are breaking down your muscle and shuttling blood and nutrients into them, your body then inflames the muscle to repair it. during this repair phase is when they grow back stronger and more conditioned

certain muscles can be hit daily like the abs and calves. but other muscles like the chest and shoulders need to be hit way less often. plus if you hit your shoulders a lot you run the risk of over training injuries
 
It's 100% true. When you lift weights, you actually break down your muscles. It provides a stimulus to your body to rebuild them bigger and stronger.

It's kind of like this

'you go to the gym and break down your muscles. Your body then goes 'wow, we were not ready for that. We just got the crap beaten out of us. We need to rebuild these muscles bigger and stronger to make sure we are ready for that next time!'

Most people thrive on weight training 4-5 days per week. Get in the gym, hit it hard and then let the muscle repair and grow.
 
This is absolutely true. When you train you tear the muscles down. When you rest they are repairing to be bigger and stronger.
