XX and XY ...

Frisky

~QUEEN BITCH~
Platinum
:oI have a rant... Oh who me? Not Frisky!!!

When will XX be treated as fairly as XY? More experience, more productivity, yet less pay and severly less respect. My work is on time, and the demand on me is quite a bit more than my male counterparts. I don't think it's fair. I have been in the oil field (male based field) for over 8 years and not a damn thing has change.

I put in more time and more energy than two of the XY's in our office and they still get the upper hand treatment.

I would get more respect as a damn prostitute than a career woman in this field. Maybe its this small hick ass town I live in and the egotistical assholes I have to work with (not all men, but the majority) have no respect for women taking 'their' jobs.

My Sr. Estimator set me up for failure on the first day I started... why? Hell I dunno, never meet the man before. I didn't fail, and that irritated him even more... why? Because I didn't need him! I didn't beg for his help, cry because I just didn't understand like he expected me to do... He doesn't like me much, and really didn't like having to come to me to ask question on how to do something reguarding a class we took... oh that killed him.

Ok, I've had my rant!

No reply's necessary, but it was so much better to type it here rather than go postal up in this place.

And I didn't even scratch the surface of the difference of treatment given amongst male/female in my field. Oh and I am the first woman in company's history here to hold this positon. Guess its scary for them, wouldn't want a woman to be a bit better than you would you?

shut up if you haven't blown anyone yet, no will hand you anything in life. Either that or stop bitching and start working in the kitchen to bring some cookies in for us hardworking men.

I'd leave if I were you, or atleast figure out a way too maybe one day move on. Maybe a lawsuit?

Dude hawtie exec in the oil field?
Damn Frisky, that is like me being a bartender in a country western bar. I Imean its just not something that is the opposite of what is associated with it ya know.
Yeah dude, you gotta be havin like turmoil every day, damn.
How the hell did you get into Oil? I'm just curious...
I mean for a lady to break into that business, is kinda like female scientist, the respect is twice as hard to get, the social pipeline that allows for networking is closed off to women in both fields, which ya know how you get ahead is through the social pipeline more than job proficiency.
I'm so happy I'm in a female oriented environment, I would go nuts hanging out with those repressed mother fuckers.

I was raised around it all my life, My father's family owns a machine shop (dealing with oilfield related parts) and my step father always worked in the oilfield. So basically I was raised around it since I can even remember. I however never was handed a damn thing, all the jobs I did get were because of my persistance but that didn't make getting in the door or getting the respect I deserved any easier.

I don't hold the typical womans oilfield job... ex... sec, accounting, admin assistant, etc... i am in a whole different field. Mostly men doing what I do, I am more than likely one a 50. Women will get away with sales in the oilfield due to selling theirselves and not even knowing shit about the product... and yep they make tons of money doing it. Offered a job doing such, but I've heard with my own ears how these women are talked about once they leave the office... and clueless... shall she come in with some knowledge and respect for herself her chances of getting the sale as opposed to her big boobed ditzy competition is normally very slim to none.

When I arrive at work i don't ask for special treatment, If the men have to comply... then so do I. If they have to go on derricks and tough it out, then so do I. I never cried "i'm a woman... blah blah, give me special treatment." I sport the steel toe boots, safety hat and glasses, pull out the measure and get full of oil and rust just like those dangling a peepee. What besides that Y in the chromo makes them any better than me (considering the fact that I actually have a clue as to what I am doing and didn't get the job due to my fantab smile and perky boobs... LOL, j/k... )

Can you handle the truth? I mean deep down you know it and so do I.
You threaten us when You show that you can handle your shit. I mean, like dude men wanna feel like men ya know. I mean I'm bout as liberal as shit gets, but fuck brah, I don't wanna feel like a panzy around a hawtie, or even a non hawtie for that matter. So you show up all hawt, smart, charming, but fucking determined, and now with this GI Jane attitude, dude its threatening to the male ego. It whispers, that now we got nothin to offer. Before we could be the only one in the fields, and take pride at getting dirty, it builds identity, self worth, that kinda thing a dude can kick back on and enjoy his bud weiser with. Nothin wrong with bein a steel drivin man.. lol, You threaten the very core of that. I'm liberal Frisk, and a little bit of a challenge to the standard definintion, but yeah, I can see how these repressed mother fuckers would be getting angry just at seeing you. I'm just sayin sweetie, you might as well as chosen infantry as a career line, that I think has way more acceptance than the one that you are in.
Howver, this is your karma, this is your job, this is what you do. It is always hard for the pioneers in a field. It certainly seems to me that you are nothing less than a real time pioneer.

Women make up 57% of college degrees. However, generally women chose lower paying degrees. (education, interior design, literature, etc.)

Generally, uneducated women do not choose the higher paying dangerous jobs.

Oh... I can have a tad bit of sympathy sometimes. I don't show off, or put anyone down because I may know something they don't. I never hesitate to help nor hesitate to ask for help if indeed I need it. I am still feminine, soft spoken and modest...

It all comes together when you actually meet their wives. Over 3/4 of them are homemakers (nothing wrong with that at all) however, are belittled by their husbands about how little they do, and how they could never make it in a mans world... blah blah... Yes, openly infront of bystanders they do this. I've had more than one tell me that a womans place is in the kitchen... I simply just laughed at him, made an evil smirk and said ... Hey, one of your customers just called me... seems you figured out the volume of that tank wrong, so I went ahead and resubmitted the drawings for you with the proper numbers and weights. You can thank me with some homeaid cookies and skim milk... *wink* thanks...

He hated me!

LOL

I know it will never completely change here, too many passed down generation rules as to who should rule the roost when it comes to certain positons, and lord forbid you allow a woman to be your superior. Most men will quit before that happens... I did however remain in the field, not to prove a point but because I truely do love what I do, have experience, it interest me... and I'm good at it.

One day... maybe, I'll hold a girly job, ya know fix Mikey his coffee, run his errands, give him a blow job during lunch for the sake of a little raise... hahahaha.... NOT!

What does that have to do with different pay scales?

I don't miss more work than the males, I have the same well actually higher education level than them, more experience and a better work ethnic.

I am not uneducated, and the job I chose is not in a low pay scale, i have been put in dangerous situations on a job... hell who say's the admin assistant won't be shocked by a damn short in the electrical supply to her cpu?

men in the work field... vs women in the work field (that have children) This does not pertain to me because I was always a career woman and my xhusband and I shared the duties when it came to dr's visits, sick kids, school functions... etc. Mostly it is pegged as the womans duty to do these things which inturn leads to more time missed.

Ok, I need to go fill my pie hole with a salad LOL

I'll quit my bitching long enought to do that. :qt:

Frisky, I have always had a thing for Jessica Beals in Flash Dance.
Damn, ya know.
Thing is like they were playing that on VH1 a couple of months ago, and I just thought it was so unrealistic her day gig.
Now, I don't.

The way movies now dumb everything down to get the message across, they make everything extreme now a days so they can make sure they get their idea across. For example in flashdance, I think one of the subtleties was that you couldn't classify the main protaganist. She wasn't 'typical'. In order to get that idea across today, since subtlety has been thrown out the door, they would make her a boilermaker by day, welding old Navy ships, and then maybe a ballerina by night and weekends.
Wait, that gets me kinda hawt.
lol

I can answer every one of those charges with one word: CHILDREN

In the vast, vast, vast majority of households that are single parent, that parent is female. In WELL more than 50% of the two parent/two career households, if one of the kids is sick or whatever and someone needs to stay home, it's the mother who ends up doing it.

When my son was little, if the school called, it was me they called and me who left work if he was hurt/had a problem. If I was in a bind and called my (now ex) husband he literally gave me the attitude of "What, you expect me to do something? I can't leave, my job is important. You're the mother, you take care of it." The one time I was out to lunch and they called him and not me, he called ME to go take care of it, and he's NOT the only guy who pulls that shit, not by a long shot.

Plenty of women take jobs that allow time flexibility, which are usually lower paying and less fast track, because they know when push comes to shove, the father will drop the ball and they have to have some flexibility to take care of the kids, end of statement.

As for Frisky's problem ... she's facing old boy network and Ariel nailed it. There's guys out there that see a strong, intelligent woman who's their equal and they feel so threatened that their balls start crawling up inside their bellies. If they can't stay on top of her (literally) by fucking her then they do it figuratively by keeping her down professionally.

.

I agree. But, why should people who choose to have children get more days off and paid the same?

You are right some women choose a job where they have more flexibility. This is one reason why the NOW say women can't complain about the pay differences.

Usually, the man can't pick up the kid. ("drops the ball") Because, he has to take a job that isn't so "flexible" that pays more. (so the fucking bills get paid)

Most men would love to take a more "flexible" job. But, then they would be a loser because they can't pay the fucking bills. (generally)

Also, I was surprised about this to...

Female absenteeism is not just about child care
Why women call in sick more than men is a complex workplace issue

By Eve Tahmincioglu
msnbc.com contributor
updated 1:38 p.m. ET, Mon., Nov. 5, 2007

The good news: Workers are calling in sick less often than they did just a decade ago.

The bad news: Women are still absent nearly twice as often as their male counterparts in the workplace.

It’s been a perpetual problem: Women tend to call in sick more often than men. But the why — even though you may think you know the answer — isn’t that clear cut, nor should it be.

The obvious answer from human resource experts, employers, employees and even us in the media is always that “working moms have most of the responsibilities at home,” and that translates into female employees having to take sick days to tend to sick kids.

Indeed, new Labor Department data shared with msnbc.com seem to support this to a degree.

“Both married and unmarried women with children report a higher rate of absences than those without children,” says Terence McMenamin with the department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics. Among single dads, the absentee rate is also higher than the rate for men without children.

What’s interesting, McMenamin points out, is that married men with kids actually report a lower rate of absences than men without children. It was so surprising to this labor data expert that he checked back to 2000 and found the trend is consistent for the past six years.

Before you pat yourself on the back, having guessed that child rearing is what has many women calling in sick, McMenamin surmises there must be many other factors contributing to the high rate among women.

“Even among people who have no children at home,” he adds, “the reported absence rate is higher among women than among men.”

Making assumptions on why women call in sick can be detrimental to the advancement of women in the workplace, says Eric Patton, an assistant professor of management at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.

As part of his research on how workplace absence is perceived, Patton studied a century’s worth of New York Times articles that dealt with the issue. He found 3,000 articles on the topic.

“Whenever it was an article about women’s absenteeism it was about gender. If it was about men and absenteeism, gender was not brought up,” he says.

That focus on gender, he adds, has created a situation where co-workers and managers expect women to be absent more often, and that, in turn, can creates an air of unreliability around female employees.

Unfortunately, there still is discrimination in the workplace.

LOL, really i don't get what is hot about about a woman in a hard hat, boots, safety glasses and oiled down... :D

LOL

I'm thinking your avi, hard hat and oil.
What more could I ask for?
Actually, I never thought of the hard hat until you mentioned it. Good call.

I agree. But, why should people who choose to have children get more days off and paid the same?
Y'know, well, first up, someone has to reproduce. Second, if everyone stops having kids there won't be anyone around to support the rest of us when we get to be old farts. Finally, as a woman, you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. We're bitched out and called lazy if we are stay at home moms. We're disconnected and unavailable if we work and ask someone else to pick up the kid so WTF, literally. In this economy most families can't make it on one average person's salary, you do the best you can. But seriously, your comment ... kids aren't a luxury item, like a boat. I hate to sound cliched but children are the future, of our species, of this planet. Ideally you want intelligent, motivated individuals breeding, as opposed to ignorant, unmotivated trash.

Also, I was surprised about this to...

Female absenteeism is not just about child care
Why women call in sick more than men is a complex workplace issue
I can't really guess what the deal is here, but I will tell you a fact, women, overall, have more chronic health issues than men. I am a medical transcriptionist. My specialty is neurology and neurosurgery. Those are NOT, in any way, gender biased fields (as opposed to say, urology, gynecology, etc.) However, women FAR outnumber men. I'm looking at a patient sheet, there are ten patients on it, 7 are women. That's about the average ratio.

I also do the transcription for a headache management center. The ratios change even more drastically, then. The women outnumber the men at least three to one.

I have my own ideas about this and it's totally off topic, it's got to do with stress and our current society and the endocrine system.

Anyway, the way I look at it, they didn't say how many days we're talking (I'd like to see if we're talking unreasonable numbers). And another thing, is this paid sick time, unpaid sick time, what? Frankly, my husband works for a company that does NOT reimburse unused sick/vacation time at the end of the year, so he makes sure he burns it up. Some companies, however, do $$$ reimburse you for paid leave. Some companies don't pay for time off at all. That could impact people's decisions whether to take a few extra mental health days or not.

I never said having kids was bad. I love kids.

The only problem I have is when people are selfish and have them too young, or with some loser. Then, the kids suffers.

The main point of the Article, the NOW, etc is... If you choose to have kids and take more days off or choose a "flexible" job...Then, don't bitch about it.

Yes, women may have more health problems. That may be one of the reasons women may miss more days of work not relating to children.

But, these are some of the general reasons they are saying women generally make less money.

Unfortunately, the NOW has no stats on frisky or musclemom.

I don't think anyone should be discriminated against. A woman doing the same job as a man should be paid the same.

Which I why don't think guys should have to pay for dates.

Well, dating :whatever: I got married the first time pretty young, so cash flow was a problem for everyone. I've gone on plenty of McDonald's and Putt-Putt dates in my time and done it happily. I've gone dutch in my time, and I've had guys ask me out when I had ZERO income and they were happy to be able to treat me so whatever. It's different when you're talking 17/18 year olds versus the 30+ age group.

As for equal pay for equal work, you'd think that would be a given but it ain't.

My personal work ethic ... well, there's a reason I'm happier now, self employed, even though I'm currently making chump change, i.e., my stress levels have dropped about 200% since I had to stop working with nitwits.
