Would you say Clean and press is the complete shoulder movement?

I still don't think that you could just do cleans and get big side delts. I personally don't know anyone or have reasearched/watched anyone get defined/good looking side delts without doing side lateral raises. Cleans will definetly make your shoulders gain mass, but I stick to my guns that you will still need to do side raises.

DO you have a copy of Strength Training Anatomy? The title is a bit of a red herring, but I think taking a look at each exercise could clear things up for you. I know it did for me for a ton of the exercises out there.

My copy is all dog eared and worn, and sit right here on my desk. It is a great book to get a lot of great info in a clear, concise and concentrated way.

Man those Mark Riptoe quotes you have in your sig are killer! I love the one about soy milk. I almost keeled over I was laughing so hard. My GF didn't believe me about that soy crap being bad for me until I showed her a bunch of studies done on Tofu and all that other shit. YUCK!!!!!!

Thanks BBlaze, I'll check that book out. I studied Anatomy in school, but not how it pertains to exercise or how the muscles move for each lift. I know the names of muscles, as bodybuilding helped me earn the best grade in both of my A&P classes! You guys all hit me hard on this one, so let me explain my reasoning! I simply feel reluctant to say there is one complete lift for any muscle group. To me that is like saying that flat bench is the "complete chest exercise". It takes inclines, declines, and flys to build a good chest. Basic compound lifts are the bread and butter to any successful routine, but variety is necessary. Squats are king, but if you never do calf raises, you'll look funny. Sure you are using your calves when you squat Extra Mile, but they don't get isolated until you do calve raises as well. I also feel that most people that responded yes to this thread at some point do lateral raises. Much Respect - Scotty

heavy wide grip upright rows.

heavy wide grip upright rows.

I've been doing these for a little while now. I recently started doing them more like a high pull from the hang, but I hold the peak contraction. The leg drive really helps with throwing up some heavy weight.

They're an awesome shoulder exercise to include in an already press heavy routine.

That's what I was refering to as a "Muscle Clean and Press"

I did these in a DC blast for 20RP. Fuck me. I had to wear straps lol. High rep clean and press will work every muscle in your upper body. Of course I wasn't throwing around weights like Trop, but those high reps were killer.

I was totally thinking the same thing and that's why I want to add them into my routine but I am conflicted as to wether add it to chest day like Burn suggests or just sub out stading (or seated) presses on shoulder day. I am kinda fed up with seated dumbell presses and the fact that my gym only goes to 125lbs DBs also has me a little frustrated. It looks like it would totally blast upper back for sure.

before I got this abdominal injury thing I was actually doing a split like this

day 1, chest/tri/military smith
day 2, off
day 3, back/bi
day 4 off
day 5 deads and clean and press(from the floor)
day 6 off
day 7 off
*****yes there are no squats in there. Lingering tendon pain post knee surgery wont let me do them.

now i'm going to split shoulders on there own day since I still cant do a great leg day. So chest day would be just tri's and chest without military press or cleans.
Then on what would have been my leg day I will do what legs I can and shoulders including cleans.
