Working out while sick?

Anyone work out when they're sick?

I've been body building for about two months now. I've done very good and consider my workouts top priority. I've been feeling a little ill for about a week and continued to workout anyway. Last night I got disoriented and threw up. I woke up this morning with a severe body-ache and sinus problems. I saw the campus doctor and he told me to rest as much as possible and take a few days off.

Any opinions? I trust him, but I just wanted to know what everyone thinks and has done. I'm feeling a little better and I'm probably going to take tomorrow and Friday off and resume my schedule Monday. Thanks.

A doc once told me that if you're "sick above the neck" it was ok to work out if you don't kill yourself and get plenty of rest.

I think the neck thing really meant that you have no major symptons, like the flu or a fever. A cold, sore throat, etc is probably ok.

Like anything, probably relative to each person.

me, i rarely get sick (flu-that kinda shit, now, having said this i'll probably be in the hospital tommorrow) but when i have a bad cold or sinus problems it seems the only time that i don't feel like total shit is the hour or so that i'm in the weight room. maybe it's me..and the steam room helps too....good luck

Thanks guys. See, my main problem is that I can't breathe. I've been taking nosedrops and it'll work for a little while, but it's not really effective. Today I walked to class (which isn't far) and I was out of breath before I got there.

I workout on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Will taking today and tomorrow off mess me up as far as getting bigger and etc. goes? I want to work out, but I'm tired and I want to get better as soon as possible. I have mid-terms and shit next week.

If you have bodyaches and/or a fever, then don't workout. If you have a stomach type virus then don't workout. If you have a common cold with just head type symptoms(stuffy nose), then you can probably workout(may even feel a bit better). Sometimes it may be just allergies and its fine to workout then. When in doubt, take the day off.

Yeah, it makes me feel better when I have the cold and work out.
