Who uses 150lbs dumbell for

Reverse French Curls(i think that is what it is called) The over the head tricep exercise where you sit down and raise your arms above your head with the dumbell with both hands on the dumbell and then you bring it down behind your neck.

You get the idea, so who uses 150lbs?

I use the 125 - 150 range. Why? What's the big deal.

Umm, not me. I did the 85's last night for 3 sets of 12. I could probably get the 100's a few times. 150's would be heavy.

How many times can you do it with strict form? I find it a big deal because I haven't seen anybody do it at my gym? I like big lifts, they impress me. What can I say? I am easily impressed, but never of myself.

I do 120's for 10-12 reps. I imagine I could do 150's but then again, my form would suffer. I prefer to keep my elbows in very tight and as close together as possible.

Funny, I always called this exercise the Behind the neck Tricep Ext. Never heard that other name before.

most definitely. now if somebody admits to benching 3 times their bodyweight or squating 4 times their bodyweight then i will drop the biggest load right now. :D

My gym only goes up to 125 pound ones.....:(

But that's ok, since I just moved from the pink ones to the baby blue ones.:D

woohoo!!! can you feel the burn in your muscles!!!!!!!;)

I just returned from the gym. Did my shoulder workout. I used 115's for my dumbell presses. 10 reps. I see more people there use more, but I think I use the strictest form. Body tight. Butt and mid back pressed into the chair. Bringing the dumbells all the way down until the outer bells touch my mid delt. Pressing upwards and bringing the bells together at the top for a touch.

Forgive me, but how in God's name to get the thing up over your head? And then how do you get your shoulders from tearing out of the sockets. I use 90's and I thought that was a little too heavy.

you can have somebody from behind hand it to you.

I did 120 the other week for 14 but shit I would be hard pressed to do 150 with strict form and full range of motion.

Yeah...I know man...lol. I may try these on Friday with a 150...and take a pic and a mpeg. Will be interesting to try and make a 150 though...lol. I'll do my best...and will post on the training board. Haven't done these in years.

If you're talking about Tricep Extentions I can probably do 150...I'm not sure because our gym only goes up to 140 DBs.

When brian747478' and I used to do them...we would set a 25lb plate on top of the 100 and do them. We would also duck tape weights to the dbells to make heavier ones to do one arm rows with.

I find that fairly impressive.Do you mind me asking what are your stats?

I can get get 95's for 6 at the moment but 115-120lbs would be a future goal of mine.

I'm not playing. It just comes naturally. :)

well then, naturally take your clothes off and send me the pics or meet me at a central location so i can judge how naturally it comes off.

How about we start calling it the American Press. France sucks, why should anything be named after them?

Parle vou wee wee, god damn french faggots.

i saw this one black guy in my gym using an 85lb db for fucking kick backs. i shit you not.

Wow. Kickbacks are worthless, I think...but they're fucking hard to do. :D I think I tried 'em a few years ago with a 25 lb DB...couldn't even get the damn thing past about a 45 degree angle lol. :mix:

As for tri extensions, reverse frenches, or whatever they're called, I use 100 lbs for about 8 reps. It's been going up pretty quickly the last few weeks, so I'm hopeing to hit 115 by the end of the month.

Two hands on one dumbell for overhead extentions? I never got that exercise, you should work them individually for best results.
BTW, kick-backs are the shit for finishers!

I start with 15 reps and go down to 8 or 6 reps over 6 sets.

did the 120's for 9 strict reps the other day.

But am paying the price as my tricep on both arms is screwed up right at the elbow insertion now I am out of the gym for a week or two except for legs.

Well Jay Cutler uses two hands on one dumbell and his tris are pretty damn meaty. They are very effective, you should try them some time.

I use a 100 pound dumbell or 115 on a ez-curls bar....

Fistfull gets plenty handed to him from behind. Believe that.

I do seated Front Raises with the 150's for 30 methodical reps. peace

Sit down, holding the dumbbell with both hands on the bar and with it sitting on end on your knee/thigh. Kick the dumbbell up with your knee while simultaneously hoisting with the power of your arms and lift the dumbbell onto your shoulder. Position yourself and start your set. Just takes a little practice.

yup - that's exactly what I do with the 15lb ones.
I have a feeling in a week or two I'll be up to the 20lb ones.

Dude, just wait until you hit the 30 pound club. Talk about exhilaration...

think i did 120 for 7 with 4 second negatives last week, that is after close grip bench press with
bands added, those fried my tri's.

Overhead Tricep Extensions: when you are seated/or standing upright and you hold the weight straight up above your head, then you lower the weight behind your back.

French Press: lying down on the bench, you hold your arms straight up in front of you, then you lower the weight towards your forehead until your elbows are bent in a 90 degree angle

right??? Bueller??

French Press = Skullcrusher?

I'm confused. Skullcrusher sounds way more hardcore than french press though. Fucking French.

Was always under the impression that a french press was done with an upright upper body (standing or sitting upright) and lowering the bar behind your head.

How deep do you have to go with these. Like I said...I haven't done them in years but want to give them a try tomorrow at the end of my workout with a 150.

I only have 25's to make my dbell with and not for sure exactly how I am gonna do it. I may have to use a cheap weider bar just to do them...we will see.

Anyway..how deep do you go?

B True

Don't have anything to sit on either...I'll probably have to do them standing....yippee

bump..how deep?

You talking to me....

A correct french press should be done seated, Dbell starting Hi above the hard and lowered with elbows in to just below mid skull
then raised.

This deep enough? It wasn't heavy...but I had to get it up from the ground by myself to get it into place. Did 2 easy sets of 5. I have a mpeg if I can find a place to store it on-line...

Copy and paste...

www.angelfire.com/journal2/bfoldthetruth/150 Dbell French Press, 5-10-02

Hope that works. My camera will only take a 5 sec mpeg on the timer...and it took me a few seconds to get it from the ground and overhead before I could press it.

looks very good to me bro, very awkward, but very good. not bad for not doing them in what, 2 years???
i'm gonna punk that 130 next week:)

Bfold keep your elbows in more...other than that looks solid.

But I still think the tate press is the best tri exercise

Will do. My elbows don't go in much more though...lol. It isn't easy getting my hands that far behind my head unless I have a bench to lean against. I felt very strange doing them like that too. I could have done 10 easy reps I believe...but was afraid to go to hard...no spotter and no place to drop the weight...

Yes...Tate Presses are great!!!!

I like you more and more my friend...Raiders, Tate Presses...wow
