WHO do you think should be TIME'S MAN OF THE YEAR.

I don't know. I have VERY strong feelings about inaction when action is called for. We hear so much about that man's heroics, his POPULARITY, the way he could get things done.

I don't know, I think he could have done something. Maybe not immediately but waaay before he did.

As with Vietnam and Johnson it's very easy to sit on the side-lines and second guess a war and whether the right moves were made at the right time. The fact of the matter remains that FDR along with other noble leaders such as Churchhill saved the rest of the world from a madman, HITLER....

Did we not do enough to help the Jews? Did we turn a blind-eye to their tragic massacres in concentration camps? Possibly, but FDR presided over the United States of America, and getting Americans to care for any other nation or group of people but themselves is often difficult to do.

Example, were Americans crying when Milosevich was massacring Serbs? Not really. We were largley silent, and that was only a couple of years ago.

Foreign policy in times of war is a delicate balancing act between strategy and politics.....Overall, FDR walked that rope very well.

Of course, that's why liberals like Ryanh "like" him over Bush. Although they would have voted against him vs Gore in a general election.

I've never voted in the Republican primary in my life until I voted for John McCain, that should tell you something about his electibility to the general population. But Pat Robertson/Falwell wouldn't hear of it, thus you got another conservative in the white house who appoints religious fanatics like John Ashcroft as Attorney general who holds prayer meetings on government property.

Cannot the same thing be stated when referring to what Bush is currently doing? I think it is quite easily accomplished if your replace some of the names. You are on the sidelines and can easily find flaw since no one is perfect.

Although I consider myself neither a democrat or republican, I find your ideals suspect and they are no match for your hypocracy.

Hey, I wrote-in a vote for him during the last election. Of course no Republican wants to see him running. Hopefully as an independent.

Bush........for Man of the Year? What a joke.

Putin? I'd go for that, or Smalls choice. But otherwise, I'd have to go with the OBL, he changed the world, so that makes him the Man with the most impact, everyone else is reacting to his moves. Wait, I haven't seen proof yet of his actual involvement.

For those who continue to blame Clinton, terrorism was around, and we lost lives long before Clinton was in office.....

Blame Reagan, the first terrorist attacks happened on his watch, and he failed to respond. 25 years ago.

Some of you people need to research more.

Seems that you are the one in need of doing more research. The first terrorist attack affecting the U.S. was in 1975. Started with an airplane hijacking then turned into a ship hijacking.

I think there should be three choices:
Rudy Giuliani (he's done amazing things for NYC, he really should be our next mayor, and this comes from a long-time giuliani hater)

Osama bin Laden (yeah he's this year's antichrist, but he's certainly had the most influence on our lives, hasn't he?)

All victims of the WTC & Pentagon attacks.

Bush gets a distant 2nd place for his improved teleprompter-reading abilities.

Sorry, I should have specified, in the Middle East, the first terrorists attacks were during Reagan's presidency. It involved Robert Stethem, and Robert Stennis. I was in the Gulf of Sidra when it happened. We did not respond. 241 Marines were killed in Beirut also, we did nothing except leave the country.

I am quite amused by all the slams on the communication skills of our President. Our best communicators have historically been those that were morally bancrupt. Bill "Scandal a month" Clinton is the perfect example. George Bush has sufficient communication skills to get the job done well. More important than that, he has demonstrated wisdom, maturity, class, judgement, even temperament, and strong leadership under fire.

Those are the qualities I seek in an elected leader. The greatest bullshit artist should have been a lawyer...that is what they do.

And you're certainly not alone in citng FDR's delay. America's isolationism and long disregard of the death camps are almost ubiquitous criticisms.

Not so ubiquitous on this board! I expressed the criticism and RyanH became sarcasto-man and said I was suggesting FDR shoulda bombed the Japs earlier than he did. Which I wasn't, and my response about Elie Wiesel explained that with dignity, but anyway.
