Hypermasculinity is the standard in the gay community? Must be a relative term. My trips to "the bars" suggest something much different. Granted, that's no way to judge an entire community. However, you can't very well say that it's only the exceptions to the rule that find their way out to the clubs every weekend.
Well, yes, I think it's a misconception.
I am saying "hypermasculinity" which is, by def, a kind of cartoon, is the idealization. I am HARDLY saying anyone much achieves it. That's why most of the straight people I know associate gays in a stereotypical way with musculature made extreme by roids or leather or faux military drag, not with dresses these days.
