Whites Only Scholarship

Not in all your cases. A tax "break" is not by definition receiving the "public" tax dollars, is it? If I receive a "break" on my taxes, am I receiving the "public's" assistance? Only if you are a socialist do you belief this tripe.

If the organization receives money that it did not generate through its own efforts or receives a service that it does not pay for through normal taxation, then yes, we agree.

Paragraph one: right. Bad choice of words on my part.

Paragraph two: alert the media, we agree.

I don't agree with affirmative action. I think that a minority should be just as qualified as anyone else if they are going to get a job. It should be based on skills, not race.
not according to the largerst employer in this country, the federal government. at the agency i am employed at, pale males are the "minority".

Therein, private schools can then do affirmative action if they so choose.

To avoid hypocrisy, you can't allow racism without allowing nepotism.

Private schoopls can establish whatever criteria they want. Whatever they want. White only, black only, whatever they want. Hence private. Silly goose.

As for public schools practicing legacy admissions, it is as wrong as affirmative action.

I don't believe in public schools though, so...well, I am pretty consistent on this one.

The legacy system has already been mentioned but:

"If there is a minority scholarship, why isn't there a Caucasian scholarship?" and there is a simple answer: there are hundreds (heck, thousands!) of them. They are sponsored by Chambers of Commerce in majority white communities, American Legion and VFW Posts with mostly white membership, fraternal organizations comprised of white people, churches in denominations that are almost exclusively white (the neighborhood churches on Sunday morning are among the most segregated institutions in America!) and many other organizations. Their scholarships are aimed at residents of white communities, the children of overwhelmingly white memberships, high achievers in schools that are almost entirely white, etc. In addition, most American colleges and universities have a special affirmative action program that benefits white people highly disproportionately - it's called the 'legacy preference.'

If the legacy stuff goes on at public schools, as demonstarted in Nature Boy's link, then it's as wrong as all this pro-minority bullshit.

Interesting side note - membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution Society (which claims to have members of all races and ethnic backgrounds) is open to:

Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution, is eligible for membership. DAR defines a "patriot" as one who provided service or direct assistance in achieving America's independence.

Wonder how a black person would go about proving that? I don't think our records at City Hall are going to go back that far.

i think its great, its about time somebody did something like that.

So in other words fairness is determined by whether it benefits YOUR group or not? Black scholarships are wrong but this one is okay because it helps a white person.
