Let's blow the doors off the stereotyping of: 'all men/women are...'.

To anyone with any basic scientific knowledge, it is not difficult to deduce this is impossible.

Some of the latest and quite interesting gender research is that not only do you have a biological sex, you also have a gender which is more of a social/cultural construct, and that your brain may be sexed as well.


Some researchers say that men can have 'women's brains' and that women can think more like men. *

I"m not sure what sex my brain is. To me it's just a byzantine conduit for my mind.
However you fuck up my brain, my mind doesn't function eitha.... so mind is not brain independent.
Mine is hermaphroditic... big time, externally it is female it's outward persona is female. However, it is a male mind that has my ego and domination at heart... -male-.

I know that is vague and you are looking more for concrete answers Tat. However , I think it's predominantly more female... I"m guessing.

I dunno. To me Female's are the stronger of the two sexes, with all the shit they have to go through, so yeah.

BTW empirical marketing research has recognized that gender is a cultural construct and marketing plans need to be designed to exploit the differences that arise between cultures. That is why there is a lot of androgynous marketing programs (especially in the apparel industry) out there: you hit two birds (or more) with one stone.

After looking at those pics of Cotto's face again it is a crime Margarito did that. I think a new rule should be that wraps get taken off the fighters after each fight and turned in to be inspected. You can kill people with plaster of paris. (I'll leave it at that so as not to hijack the thread!)

On another note related to Tat. Stereotyping will persist even after these findings. If anything, it will show there are more than 2 categories of 'gender', let's say there are 6, then people get get lumped into these groups, and the stereotyping will become more refined.

Stereotyping is innate. Humans must stereotype because it is their way of organizing complex patterns of data. Without stereotyping it all becomes unorganized chaos.

To emphasize my point, Tat's post inherently sterotypes people into two groups. Those that do not understand the complexities of gender and those that do. Perhaps the hidden message is that one group is 'better' than the other? So rather than 'blowing off the doors' of stereotyping this post implicitly supports stereotyping.
 
BTW it is good thandie and tat are posting in here. We need fresh faces with good posts! (Tat's posts are always good) I get tired of the shrimpy nonsense.

Very true, I am sure Ariel can expand on this as well, but it is referred to as schema.

There is so much information that we have to deal with that we have to put things into schema, which really is one step away from a stereotype.

For example, as soon as we hear the word 'Christmas', certain images and concepts pop up out of our memory, Fat man in a red suit, Christmas trees, etc.

The same goes for other words, such as 'pink' and 'blue', we automatically have associations.

It also sort of links in to the whole memes concept as well.

That was one area I scored more towards the male side. My ring fingers are both a bit longer than my index fingers.

It was a ratio thing...the average male ratio was like .96 and the average female was 1.00. I scored .93 on one hand and .95 on the other...the lower the ratio, the more testosterone you were exposed to in the womb.

Tat as far as language goes it is all based on the past. Words, Names, keep us bound to the past. How can anything be creative if it is all based on past. The thing is to, to really evolve on has to see this conundrum. For example, western language cannot account for depth... the 'is and 'is not' express an a certain fixated 'object-ive' state. They take the focus away from the movement, change, and process and put it on matter. Through labels our focus is on substance and not activity. Knowledge becomes content, and not Capacity.

Right now language is falling fast in accounting for the multidimensional reality that we live in, there are experiences, entities, things that defy our limited descriptions. Where is the internet? That sort of thing.

Anyway, I can tell I"m getting started on another rant. I'll stop here.

I destroyed the "male" tests, and did poorly on the "female" tests, however, I scored a 0 overall, right smack in the middle.

I got 12/12 on the object rotation, and 2 on the eye/emotion, for example.

I also found out the my left fingers are shorter than my right.

I had an .82 on one hand and a .88 on the other
 
I'm smack dab in the middle, scoring higher recognition than the average male in the 'Angles' and '3D Shapes'.:artist:

I did the test in the wee hours of the morning on call, so I was a tad sleep deprived so I bombed on a few of the tests, but I scored 25 on the male side.

:)
 
For the thumb, I scored right brain (indicating female)
angles I got 20/20 (indicating male)
shapes moving I did kinda crappy on (indicating male)
Finger length was a lower ratio (indicating male)
Scored well on emotion recognition (indicating female)
prefered masculine faces (indcating female, I guess?)
12/12 on object rotation (indicating male)
scored high in empathy and low in the "how shit works" (indicating female)
Asked for more than 65% of the pot (indicating male)
I think I was average on the "words" one, can't remember.

I looked at that mess and just skipped to the next part. I got a 4 on empathy and a 20 in systemising. I was surprised that I scored 8 of 10 on the eye test.
 
I just gave up.
I put too much thought into posting.
I'm selfish I guess.

One correlation I've percieved, and I'll speak in metaphor, cause well... I just do.

You know your sig of I am what I am, and I ain't what I ain't.

Well, the 'am' of what you 'are' in that 'moment' is determined to a very large
extent by what you 'feel'. You can think positive thoughts all you want, but if you 'feel' like shit. The affirmation thoughts of I'm 'happy'. Well, I think they would just piss you off more.

Point is Emotions= Reality.
Thought=Appearance.
Emotions to a large Extent are the fuel for Life.

Intuition trumps Emotion which trumps thought.

You need all 3, and to have all 3 in synchrony is what we all want.

I didn't take the test, sorry Tat. I think that just makes me lazy which is beneath both gender.

The smartest people on earth can be emotionally retarded and incapable of having normal, healthy relationships. If you're disconnected and out of touch with your own and the emotions of others, you don't inter-relate well, at all.

I have always come to believe that being in the moment is more about situational awareness.

You wouldn't notice any emotions or thoughts in this state, it would be pure being.

I guess we are confusing Emotion with Emotionality. Root vs. Rootlessness.

Pure Being would have the appearance of Tranquility, Nonattachment, but the best part or kicker is JOY.

Joy is an Emotion.

Emotionality... yeah that is being dependent on Time and the Situation in which is brought on Cause and Effect of Conditional existence.

Your Pure Being would be without emotionality... which I think is what you are associating emotion, semantically, with.

Just because they're hormonally mediated doesn't make them fake, they're very real. It's like telling a schizophrenic their reality isn't real. To them it's absolutely real, it's just not what you happen to be experiencing.

It's kind of like PMS or 'roid rage, sometimes you have to force yourself to take a breath and accept that what you're feeling is real, but that hormones may be adding fuel to the fire. That you may need to think twice before you speak once (or sob once, whatever the case).

Defo.

Emotions are real. Real wiring through the amygdala and in a primitive part of the brain.

If you hold off for around ten seconds, it gives the frontal cortex, or the thinking/social part a chance.

Maybe not with the hormonal crying, but I find that identifying this with just hormonal crying and primitive wiring has me not look for an excuse or a person to blame it on.

It is perfectly logical.
