what martial art should i start with?

Steroid Guru

Plat Hero

Ok bros, i signed up at a local martial arts club called knockout fitness. Im not really experienced in any thing their teaching so i was wondering which one would be the best for me to start with. They have, boxing, muay thai,
jiu jitsu and M.M.A. Im really interested in Muay Thai and MMA but would it be better for me start off with boxing and then ease into everything else? My cardio shape is a little sad right now too. or should i just dive right into the MMA and muay thai. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

I would start with basic boxing first (based on the options you presented) - you will get a lot out of it - timing, striking power, body movement, cardio.

It all depends on what you like. You will want to start out with something that you are going to enjoy, and can stay fired up to learn. I have done MT, boxing, and various grappling type martial arts, mostly in the military, and I enjoyed them all. But last fall I started taking Judo, and it is by far the funnest, and most gratifying of any of the other martial arts that I have tried. And the majority of Judo dojos are very competition oriented, so you will be driven to learn, and to put into practice what you have learned in a competition type setting much sooner than in most other martial arts. Also, Judo isn't very complicated to learn, but is much faster paced than most arts, and it is often one of the least expensive arts as far as tuition is concerned, and there are tournaments everywhere all the time. (But damned if the brain damage from being thrown over and over in practice doesn't cause you to write ridiculously long run-on sentences)

I would agree with judoka...Variety is the spice of life, but finding your niche is important, as well.

I would either dive right into the MMA or take the Muay Thai or Boxing and Jujitsu as a pair. Get the grappling and striking combo.

Now, you'll need good teacher and good environment to remain fired up. Muaythai is my love, yet I've been to several camps that I don't like and would've turned away. So you may like a style, but if the teacher is not making his class fun and educational, the style will be hidden from you.
BTW I live in Thailand, and there are several camps with plenty of good teachers. :)

If you already signed up try everythign and see what you love . Then do that for 10 years or so before doing anythign else . That will make you a great Fighter .

LOL, I would hope there would be good schools and teachers in the native country of the art.

Although a lot of the masters moved off to Europe, I heard.

dont for get the US . Coban , Master K , Master Toddy , Manster Dannny ....

There are a LOT of great Kru in the states as well .

Oh, the U.S. is a given. But I know they have a huge muay thai following in Europe. Sort of like Kyokushin in Australia.
