I don't know if I can lend anymore advice than already given...IMO steroids are not the answer for you, BUT to suddenly stop taking them may give your mind and body and unbearable amount of stress. It could easily be disasterous. You are not quite ready for that.
You say you have seen shrinks before but say they aren't working. Fine. I can understand that sentiment. But there are a lot of shrinks out there you haven't seen yet. Point is, many follow their own paradigm which may not jive with what you need to accomplish.
Go to another one. If you don't like him/her, move on to the next. Do not feel obligated to any one doctor. A good therapist would much rather surrender you to another before putting your health in jeopardy or do bad work.
And drugs (pharmaceutical intervention not steriods or coke) are not for everyone. I personally feel there is plenty of scientific evidence which proves they can have a dramatic effect on a person. They wouldnt be prescribed unless there wasn't.
And any good psychiatrist would change meds on you after they realize it is not working. Unfortunately it can take time to find the right "cocktail" and take a while to see results.
In any event...good luck. Try to figure things out. There are people out there that will help you.
