Well, here's a vid of my powerclean

Thanks for the input and kind words Biggt – I’ve tried that drill where you pull yourself under the bar and stomp but I usually give up after a few tries. I guess I just have to stick with it, I find it really difficult, coordination-wise.. It’s quite frustrating because I can front squat decently and I think I can clean pull OK :worried:

Yep I love them. I used to like the gym atmosphere but lately I like messing around in my place and rubbing up against my stuff..

Funny thing, my wife saw my stuff and thought the name ‘Eleiko’ was ‘cute’ and wants to use that name for our next dog or cat :garza:

The drill biggt talked about was crucial to my learning it, although I've never seen my coach use it. Just take the bar, stand at full extension, then beat it to the floor... catch it in the full squat before it hits the floor.

Actually come to think of it, the problem with this drill is that you learn to catch it soft, so you get crushed at the bottom by heavy weights - this was something that took me 2 months to correct.

Okay, so use your arms a little bit, but the key here is to catch it in the hole solidly. As long as your are tight, you should be able to get a spring in the bottom and stand up easily.

Sorry if that post made no sense.

Thanks for the tips. I just thought of something – I have some old lifting hooks, maybe I can use these to practice this drill. Right now I find myself still gripping the bar and with the light weights I’m using it’s all over the place.

Not sure what you mean by using my arms?

I don't think i'm skilled enough yet to cirtique but other than what was said..

isn't it best to keep the bar on "1 plane" ... as in from the floor straight up... and not up and back... if that makes sense?

Sweet weights ;)

Imagine if you were using the ol' Weider weights..... poor kitty or doggy.

Messin' around week, Day 2 :)

Dip 'n dive drill

Bar x 6 x 5

vid

(Thanks SR) - I still have a lot of work to do, lots for me to think about but Rice's vid really helped get me going at least. You can tell I had to practice getting extended in the start position lol. Anyway, I still have to concentrate on whipping my elbows under as fast as I can, sometimes I didn't remember until the last couple reps.

Front Squat
40 x 2 x 5
60 x 2 x 3
80 x 1
100 x 1
115 x 1
125 x 1

vid

Last 3 sets were belted. I just wanted to see if I could get 125. It was pretty tough rep not in doubt.

Also, I haven't worn my belt in quite awhile. I liked it :p But I'm definitely fatter, I have a cheapie belt and there's barely enough velcro to get it around my waist.

OHP
Bar x 8
40 x 3 x 10

Pretty easy except for last couple reps of each set. Wow my conditioning sucks on these.

Pullups
Strong Band x 2 x 15

These catapulted me up but by the last few reps I could 'feel the burn'

Rev. Hypers
BW x 3 x 12

Overall: Fun workout, fun to try a FS single.

Good job on front squats and staying tight, etc. Just try to keep your back tighter and torso more upright so that you can spring with more weight. You look like you ahve the strength for 135-140 fs right now, just gotta get the chest higher so that the weight is in a more advantageous position. If it's forward like that, it takes more energy to hold it and you risk being caved in by it.

You catch your cleans this way too. When you extend, you have extended forward and leaned into it. Extend UPWARD, so the bar does not end up in front of you. If you clean even a moderately weight, like 80%+ and try to catch it like that, it will crush you. The only way you can catch heavy weights hunched over is if you are extremely strong.

Yep I noticed that I was kind of lunging forward on the catch, a couple times I could feel the bar getting in front of me. I'm gonna keep drilling this.

I can only help with the last part.

Jim- form looks good as mentioned before just need to get faster which takes practice. So keep up the good work and the progress.

Cheers,
