Well guys, I *ucked my shoulder up yesterday!

I fkd mine at wrestling practice. 8 months later, still imjured. Bench and incline are the worst, I've layed off them for now.

Had my first ART treatment last week, going for round 2 tomorrow. I'll keep everyone updated. The doc has confidence in healing my shoulder. He could feel slight tears in my rotator cuff and a big one on the top of my chest. Everytime he would do the technique on my chest, you could feel a big hole were a tear was. It was really odd

That sounds kinda strange because as I understand it, A.R.T. is about breaking up scar tissue and putting the muscles back where they're supposed to be sorta speak. I was told by a number of chiro's that ART cannot heal muscle tears. Make sure this guy knows what he is doing so you don't get fucked. The first guy I went to had not been certified in a while and he did not help my shoulder one bit, however he left some nice bruises. The guy I go to now is the best. He actually works on Dorian Yates whenever he is visiting the East coast.
Make sure he has been re-certified recently and call the 1800 number if you must. You can find providers through both the website (which lists there certification status) and the phone number. Oh yeah, and most therapists charge around $35 a visit if not covered by insurance.

Listen to StoneCold

Try ART FIRST!

I did it worked.

besides, in case in dosent, the knife guys will still be there waiting to take your $$!! lol

oh yeah, in case your wondering, it was bad. i couldnt lateral raise 10lbs and my bench was at 55%

serious, you aint got a thing to lose and everything to gain. Surgery should be last.

OVRtrainer, Thanks for the heads up bro! I'm going to a level 3 practioner, from the activerelease site. He's worked on a few fighters I know also. Pro BB Joe Deangelis is one of his patients as well.

take care

I feel my shoulder starting to give me problems lately- I'm staying away from flat bench with barbells for a while.

Good shit bro! Therapists that are familiar with bodybuilding injuries are the best ones to see. Good luck! Let us know how it goes...

Hope you have a quick recovery bro! Make sure your shoulder is fully healed before you lift again. Good luck and keep us posted.

You weren't told that by an ART certified chiropractor I hope!

ART actually can be of significant benifit for muscle tears. One of the major injuries I had treated with ART was two torn hamstrings. If its a true 3rd degree tear (which is unlikely or your guy would have said so, and you'd be pretty much incapacitated), then you will never be 100% again. But my hamstrings were both VERY BAD 2nd degree tears, and ART worked wonders.

You're exactly right about what ART does... when you have a muscle tear, the fibers in that area will not just realign perfectly on their own. The area of the tear will develop a lot of scar tissue, which prevents healthy muscle tissue from reforming where it should. By breaking up the scar tissue and helping to realign fibers, the tear can continue to heal properly (i.e. with healthy tissue instead of scar tissue).

StoneColdGold...

Either I misunderstood or they did not explain it clearly, but after reading your explanation I can see how A.R.T. would be beneficial to healing torn muscles properly. However, just to clarify, you obviously won't get the same kind of "fast relief" that you would with some other type of soft tissue damage, correct?

Correct. Its not the same thing as breaking up adhesions or smaller amounts of scar tissue which are simply impeding the smooth funcition of a joint or nerves (i.e. scar tissue in the rotator cuff pulling the shoulder out of alignment or putting pressure on nerves). Those situations and others are the ones in which you experience "fast relief." With more significant muscle tears, it is obviously going to still take time to heal with healthy fibers. But thats the point... now it CAN heal with those healthy fibers. At the same time, though, you will still feel some immediate effects even with the more serious muscle injuries. Dr. Leahy worked on my hamstrings only a few days after I tore them, but I felt significantly better immediately upon leaving his office.
