i got ripped on the other day by a few conservs on here. so i can only expect that much dismissiveness from you

If you would like to know Longhorn85, my father is a mechanic, my mother works in the high school cafeteria. i have two siblings and one adopted brother. there were four of us growing up. our household income was anywhere between 25-30 grand a year in a 3 bedroom house.

and yes i am liberal. how in the hell does that make me an elitist?

Just because you drink the kool-aid of liberal elitism doesn't necessarily make you an elitist. You may simply be duped.

again it was a small local election both times. (house of representatives and mayoral)

From what I can tell you, WE (because of the small area we are from, and low socioeconomical class that make up our area I have to use the word WE instead of US b/c even I know better than to think the national Democratic Party represents us entirely) had a few things that we stood on:

1) Healthcare for everyone. I dont care if you make five dollars an hour or five thousand--no one should be without medical attention. no body.

2) Funds for education should be allocated accordingly by Superintendants. Superintendants of schools are elected, therefore, they should have the power to allocate funds given by the federal govt that he or she may see fit. This no child left behind crap has defintely been flushed down the toilet months ago. if your kid has a textbook that is outdated, a desk that is broken and stinks, doesnt know how to operate simple Windows programs in the year 2006, then guess what? its not his or her fault.

3) Death tax. This was a huge debate. im running out of time, but you knwo what it is. Real Estate Tax etc.

I most certainly have the nerve to look down on Walmart shoppers... You should look at them sometimes... riding around in the little Rascal electric carts grouchy and complaining about meds being too high, the unwed pregnant teenagers working the cash register in a sully mood because DEFACS and Medicaid actually want her to come in to receive healthcare as her employer doesn't offer it, the illegal workers hired in the back to do the labor no one else wants to do and not paying any Social Security tax

BTW I can't believe you'd pass up the opportunity to see all of this drama while stopping to pick up some cheap chicken breasts and extra underwear.

2) How would you solve the education problems? The teacher's union and teachers are democrats and have done a very poor job of teaching America's youth, dumping billions upon billions of dollars into the system has shown that it has done no good in solving the educational problems. What reforms should be implemented to improve the educational system and motivate the teachers and the teacher's union to teach children and how would that be paid for?

3) Death tax is a tax on money that has already been taxed once as income. Why shouldnt a person who worked hard, saved their money not be able to pass it on to their children? You dont see a moral dilemma in taking 55% of an estate sometimes much higher if you add up the estate taxes. This is a huge burden for family businesses. Why should a family member dying entitle the government to take over half the value of the family business or family farm?



Rather than putting down conservatives or liberals I believe its more healthy and much smarter as well as intellectually honest to discuss the issues rather than attacking some label. Thats the only way to solve problems in logical thought.
Too often I hear college kids who've taken a few classes think they know it all when they rarely are familiar with any of the issues and why they exist and they have not thought in any way how to form workable solutions. Being for an issue does not mean anything. Who wouldnt be for everyone getting healthcare or children receiving a proper education. The problem is how to achieve these goals which is what I am asking how much you have thought about it and what your solutions are. Just trying to get you past the name-calling and debate the merits of each issue

Unfortunately the nation as a whole has turned to the right very sharply since Bill Clinton... This does not surprise or shock me
