ceasar989 said:is 4 and half cans a day too much? Being on a student budget and trying to get as much protein as I can get, tuna seems like a good option. Do you think I am taking in too much sodium? I drain before I eat it, depending on what meal it is (fat/carb) i might add anything from olive oil to lemon juice on it or eat with some toast.

If you enjoy the taste of sour cream it is good. The added moisture makes it easy to chew and swallow, and the sour cream taste overpowers the fish taste big time. It’s the closest thing to mayo IMO with out all the fat.
Thanks for the good ideas chef, always looking to save some cash!!!!!ChefWide said:Check the garbage sugars and transfats on any of the 'prepared' tuna products. Some are just fine, but keep an eye out for it.
Broke? Get your tuna in #10 cans, split it up into portions and freeze it. NO muss, no fuss, and MUCH MUCH cheaper.
Cheapest by FAR protein you can buy is big bulk whey, but not many of us can deal with 50kg of pure protein. Next in line portion per portion is bulk frozen eggwhites. Bulk frozenchicken breasts are REAL cheap too...
GET THEM FROM A RESTAURANT SUPPLY HOUSE! Just tell them you are a home caterer and bring CASH with you, be sure to tell them you pay in CASH.
In order to make the most of saving day to day you will need a freezer that can handle the burden.

I go through about 3 or 4 albacore cans a day plain.. there's a Monoprix right next to my apartment.. 70-80 eggs a week and 21-24 can's of tuna.. about 8-10 chicken breasts, 6-8 tuna steaks, close to a box of oatmeal, bundle of bananas.. 7 cans of green veggies, and a half gallon of milk.. that's my shopping list every... single.. week..
