I built my size differently for sure. It was a combination of bodybuilding, powerlifting, Olympic lifts and some strongman stuff. I've been big for so long I hold it and regain it so easy now. I'm 50 years old, 270# and can do not only wide grip chins but also kick over my head cold no prep or warmup, still do a full split. I trained for function all my life. Granted I hurt from injuries but still workout daily, actually working out keeps the pain away, usually only take off when my body says take time off.
