11-13-03 Testing day for bench press

First bench workout in 5 weeks. Just wanted to test things out and got a little carried away.....LOL

External and internal rotations 3 x 30
mild stretching

warm up
225 x 5
315 x 5
405 x 2

shirted up
495 x 1
545 x 1
605 x 1 (15# PR)
625 x 1 (35# PR)
655 x N A D A ! ! !

Think I'll take more breaks from bench training more frequently. Had been focusing on weighted dips and low (20 degree) inclines for past 5 weeks. Biceps tendons feel great now.

Guess I should add that a PR wasn't a total shock. I had been training for a local meet and it was rescheduled so the strength was there. I just figured that after taking 5 weeks off benching I would have lost more than I did. My planned final attempt for the meet was 655#. Now I feel like I would have RAPED IT!

Well back to high volume benching now. 700 here I come bitch!!!

floor press w/ pause
305
up 5 lbs, a minor miracle since my training has been shot due to injury the past 5 weeks

i don't ever max out, so my PR's are all with my working weights.

hit 265 for 12 on deads last night. goin for 275 next week.

weak compared to so many guys here, but i've only been doin them for 6 months now and making progress every week. i hope to hit that 315 milestone by the end of december now that i'm incorporating rack deads into my routine too.

Squat PR

In training for Boston last night, I suited up in my new hardcore I bought used. Hit 515 for 7 on squats, then hit 585 about 2" high just to do it. Never done 515 for that before on a squat.

I hit a post surgery pr. I got 310 for 2 reps on the hammer strength incline press. :)

I thought that I would check and see where my strength was, and it's coming along nicely. :D

Excellent :)

What's your all-time PR on that sucker? What did your warm-ups look like today, or were you already pretty warm by the time you hit the HIP?

310's 3 wheels and 2 10's per side, ain't it?

IMHO, that's not at all bad for that machine. Most trainers seem to stick to a rather dinky 140 on the thing; a few will go to 180, and a handful I've seen go over 270 for 6+ reps. I only know 2-3 trainers, including myself, who've gone 320+ for more than a couple of reps. A very rare few go to 360 or more...I've only seen one, IIRC. I think I tried 360 once and got it for a single (?). That's been awhile, and it'll be a long time before I get to do that again, I bet, with my own weirdo injury :)

Anyway, I bet if more people treated the exercise with the respect it deserves, their numbers would improve. Most guys I see out of the corner of my eye treat it like they would cable crossovers...*sigh*

Yep, 3 45's and 2 10's per side. I was surprised at how my strength had come along. I thought going in that my max would be around 270.

My warmups went like this

12x90
10x180
8x230
6x270
4x290
2x310

I know, that's a lot of warmups, but with my shoulder I am not taking any chances. As for my previous max, I am not real sure. I never really checked my maxes, but my last working sets before my injury were 360. It's been around three months since my surgery, so I will get back to 360 in a couple months.

:)

Naw, looks good. I can't blame you for being careful :) Three months out of the surgery you're kicking ass.

I'd race you to 360, but I doubt I'm going to come out of the hole and be doing work sets with my former ~1RM material inside of 2 months, LOL. As it is now, my right side's having a lot of trouble with a lowly 270 *frowns* (Hopefully this book I've ordered, and the ART gal I know, can help out a lot. It's pretty stupid-looking to do all these reps with the left side, then a handful with the right. D'oH!)

But enough about me. May we all heal up such that we can destroy ourselves again...*raises goblet in toast*
;)

255x1 w/ mini's doubled over. (first time doing these so here is my starting point) had probably 265...but band work is...well...

band work is weird!

Few PR's in the last week.

Incline bench 335lbs for 2 sets of 8
Deadlifts 495lbs for 2 sets of 8
Military Press 275lbs for 12 (I'm trying for 315lbs next workout, I've yet to go heavier than 275lbs)

ohh... almost forgot...
Tricep kickbacks 3lbs for 8 reps :D

155/3 standing military press

By getting back up there, I can infer something's messed with your training in recent weeks/months? An injury perhaps?

If so, sorry to hear it :worried:

Nice work!

ok, no GM PR today...255 felt heavy, though I might have squeezed out 265 to make my previous PR, but i wasnt sure. No power rack to save me.

225/10 flat bench PR. i've been chasing this one for a few weeks. just never done it before, wanted to do it. did this as a down set after hitting 275/1 a few times.

All you guys with these PRs on bench are going to make me post, even though most probably doubt some of my numbers.
Off to try 3 sets of 10 reps with 295 today on incline barbell and rest pause 405 for 3-5 reps on flat barbell.

another chin pr: 5X5 w/75 lbs

gonna do higher reps this week though, feeling kind of run down

I'll shoot for 4X10 w/45

365 X 10, 10, 8 on flat monday.

Ive done 365 in the past for 10, but not for 3 sets of 10 (suppose to be 10 on the last one). Old high was 345 for 3 sets of 10

Military Press 275x4 (not really a PR....but it's been like 5 or 6 months since I've been able to hit this.)

a few days ago i did 295x8 on flat bench a PR i think, and a few days before that i did 335x10 on squats, a small PR.
