The Vick Case

also big thanks to those of you who have greened me up on this thread, even if you can't come out and publicly agree with what i've said at least you've let me know that I am not alone.

I think people have an emotional and a knee jerk response to this thread.

"Oh my GOD he electrocuted a cute little defenseless doggy!" boo hoo

how many of those people shed a SINGLE tear for anyone killed by sheer negligance after the katrina incident?

Oh and by the way, who did they put in prison for the levy failures and failed emergency response?

LMFAO @ The thinly vield 'I have phantom supporters' post...

Bump for response from Lestat
I disagree with making him the example then. Dog fighting didn't start with Vick and won't end with Vick. He should be punished, yes, he should face consquences, but prison time, no.

I'll put up 1,000,000 K if you'll do the same.

if so, let me know and then I'll make sure its ok with the other parties that I post their handles (i'll split the k with them).

I feel that Vick should NOT go to prison for this crimes, simple as that.

I think what he did is no worse than what many hunters in this country do.

Lestat do you think before you post? Do you bother doing any research?
Do you really believe that Mike Vick is going to prison for just "killing dogs"? How about the racketeering, gambling ring, conspiracy, and interstate commerce charges...? Should Vick not be punished for those things either?

every article I have read on the case has ZEROED in on the fact that he was involved in the killing of approximately 8 dogs by hanging, drowning, and electrocution.

I wasn't aware that they federally prosecuted people for racketeering and gambling for the amounts he was working with (I think the largest was what, 30,000?)

As with lots of cases, vick will do jailtime bases on the combination of many charges, not simply one charge of killing/torturing a few dogs.

OK. Let's do some basic philosophy and logic. Two things you are so fond of.

1. You stated you think dogfighting is WRONG.
2. I'm going to assume you think it should STOP.
3. To get people to STOP something we think is WRONG, the gov't makes LAWS
4. LAWS punish people to STOP them from doing something WRONG
5. LAWS need to deter future offenders from doing said WRONG thing
6. In order to be effective, LAWS must communicated to the public
7. LAWS must be stiff enough to deter those people
8. Vick did something WRONG and broke the LAW
9. The gov't is using him to set a precedent to STOP others from breaking that LAW and doing something WRONG
10. Hence he needs to go to jail and have his life ruined to STOP others from breaking the LAW and doing something WRONG

Make sense?

Chop every coke addicts left hand off if they get caught. Overkill?? Maybe. But I bet there would be less coke on the streets in about a year...

Why argue over semantics (patsfan and jh1) when Lestat doesn't even know the charges in this case? lmao
