The new affrimative action

So we have a new delimma in the UC school system.

Recently the president of the UC regents system system (John moore... owner of the padres) wants the schools investigated because people with 1400+ SAT and moderate GPA scores are being turned away in favor of students with high GPA's but low SAT's.

Here is the problem. How often does a student with a 1400+ SAT have a low GPA (its rhetorical).... and how close does it have to be.

If a student from some school in Compton has a 4.0 GPA and a 900 SAT gets selected over a student.. say from Rancho Bernardo with a 3.8 GPA and a 1400 SAT.. is that fair?

Does a school in Compton or the heart of Oakland have the same level of education as a school in Palos Verdes or Rancho Santa Fe?? Hell as long as you dont stab your teacher or get pregnant you can manage a 3.0 in come of these inner city schools.

Anyone who cant see through this paper thin ploy to enroll the "downtrodden" has to be blind. All this is is another disguise for affirmative action. Might as well throw prop 209 out the window.

How many times do we have to vote this shit down before these liberal fuckheads running the schools stop trying to pull this shit.
Oh and the code name for their new affirmative action program is "Comprehensive Review"

It won't be locked if we stay mature about the topic.

My sister is a teacher in NY city. Her areas would be considered "inner city" by anyone; in 4 years tehacning she has not had a white student.

The first two years she taught high school. She said that there were some students - mostly girls - who got into top schools: Yale, Brown etc after HS.

However, these gilrs would often last only a semester because the workload at these schools was over their head. They would come bsck and enroll at CCNY (citycollege of NY) because it was more their speed.

College admission has become such a scam....

must be incredibly frustrating for her. I could never be a high school teacher... I would lose my mind teaching all that revisionist crap.

Sometimes I really feel sorry for teachers. They have a difficult job.

But since we know "diversity" is what makes Amerikwa great, it is important to achieve "diversity" at all our institutions (private too!!!) even if it means disregarding the constitution.

She ahs an interesting perspective on things. She said that the old-line teachers are th eones who are merely soldiering on, whereas a lot of the younger ones are upset.

Younger teachers don't want to join the unions etc, whereas older teachers do what the unions tell them unquestioningly.

This is normal - younger workers are always more enthusiastic and less cynical, but combined with effective policymaking, there is a change receptive audience.

Mayor Bloomberg in NY city has regained control of the school board. If he can show that model to be a success, it might make inroads elsewhere.

The enemy is the teacher's union.....collective bargaining in the public sector for taxpayer funded jobs is reprehensible. Even uber-liberal FDR forbade public sector unions.

agreed... same with road workers (i.e. Caltrans) are even worse. Its amazing how such a large organization con produce so little thanks to a Union.
