The Gym According to Dial_tone

lol @ plate hogs.

my gym has rubber coated weights and a platform for power movements. it's nice cause i don't have to haul 45s across the gym to set up for deads. i do, however, have to bring 45s over to the power rack every time i want to squat.

a few months ago i asked a few of the student employees in the gym if we could get a new box so i could box squat. the steel ones they have are too tall (18" and 24") and the wooden ones are too short (4" and 8"). i was given a dumbfounded look because not only did i say "squats," but i said "box squats." the suggestion i was given was to let them know when i wanted to do box squats and they'd get me a few of the plastic things that are used for areobics :rolleyes:

since then i've been using the 8" box, put a rubber coated plate on top (about 3" thick), and then grab a steel plate that has a flat side to put on top of that. last week i saw the gym manager and explained my dilemma. she's ordering a 12 or 14" steel box for me :D

Yes I did say brutha. Given the sitch I thought that it would be more appropriate than my usual "Darlin'". The dumbbells go 10, 12, 15, 17.5, 20, 25, 30, 35 and so on in 5# increments to 100#'s I believe. I will have a looksee tomorrow AM to confirm where they top out. My gym is pretty well equipped so I tend to mind the gymmorons less.

The only thing more sissifying to that poor guy than curling as much or more weight is to be able to execute proper wide-grip, dead-hang pull-ups while he was doing them like a bitch while said trainer was getting a serious back and bi workout pushing his gurly ass up. OMYGOD! Was that funny as shit! Of course, it was out front in full view of everyone.... including my little kids.

They were like, "YOU GO MOM!"

Good list. You should avoid the gym on Mondays between 5-7 pm. I was training a woman the other day and walked over to the squat rack to set her up. I was pissed because there were several plates still on the bar.

Just when I started taking them off I heard from across the gym: "wait, I'm not done yet!" The call is coming from a dude halfway across the gym knocking out a set of calve raises.

Please use one machine at a time, especially during peak hours.

Yep. I've been working out there myself. I have observed the same things. If I could deal with people, I'd be a personal trainer out here. The ones I've seen, you can't even tell if they workout.

theres a few @ my gym that wear t-shirts that say "personal trainer" on the back... like just in case you dont know..lol.

Yep... they are quite obvious and open about it too. Dealing them in the weightroom and discussing it openly and stuff.

Before they moved to a new building, and got some cardio, and attracted some women into the gym, they'd even shoot up in the gym. I've seen one guy get GH done a few times.

I think they are called uniforms. We wear them at Sport and Health too. You know, to give that "professional look". :)

no shit! I get off work at 4:30 pm so I am at the gym from exactly 5-7 (a YMCA, no less)

it's a fucking zoo. it's enough to make me want to leave mid workout on some days. but I suffer through it :D
 
im joing a friggen 24 hour gym so on those days where my school schedule is packed i dont have to go at peak hours, i can go at like 1am (i dont sleep anyways)

I missed a morning workout one day last month, so i hit the gym right around that time. there were more people in there than i felt like dealing with. i didn't have to wait to do deadlifts though.

one thing i've really enjoyed about being a student is i can set my own class schedule so i'm in the gym late morning/early afternoon. not very many people there. this summer, the place has been vacant and i'm really loving that. once the fall semester starts there will be tons of people in there for a month or so, then most of them will give up and the place will be reasonable.

about 2 weeks before spring break, the gym was a total madhouse at all hours of the day. it actually took me a few days before i realized spring break was coming up. i guess all the guys were trying to get big and buff and all the girls lean in a few short weeks so they'd look good on the beaches or wherever they were going to spend the week. after spring break, the place was a ghost town. guess everyone that crammed in there got in tip top shape real fast and figured they could wait til the following year to do it all over again.

5 minutes rest between sets is apparently the standard now. This gives you plenty of time to shoot the shit about stuff than easily wait TIL YOU FUCKING GET HOME! I'm in the gym today bustin ass on my barn door sized back...when I walk into a room i'm not quite blocking all the sunlight so I must need more size. I knock out 5 sets on the Hammer strength high row then saunter over to the Low Row machine. A pair of tools not very hard at work tells me one guy has 3 sets left and the other two. No problem, I'm off to the t-bar gizmo and quickly knock out 4 solid sets there. I mosey on back to the Low Row figuring Curly & Moe are about done. Curly is in the middle of telling Moe about how he haggled over $5 on a $500+ car lease. Moe sits on the machine for a full 90 seconds w/o doing rep #1. I'm all "c'mon guys...it's rush hour!" (6:15pm). These ass hats have still got 3 sets left. They leave one set early after I give them the "I'M RICK JAMES, BITCH!" glare.

5 sets Hammer Strength Hi row
4 sets T-bar rows
4 sets Hammer Strength Low row
3 sets chins
4 sets rear delt raises
3 sets Good mornings

D_T is done with 23 sets in 50 minutes. I takes no prisoners, mang. I bullshit all day on EF....I can STFU for an hour in the gym. On a positive note, I did see one very large Samoan build bruh absolutely toy with 405 lbs on the bench press. Maybe there is hope for today's youth.
