HOLY SHIT THIS STUFF IS FUCKING AWESOME!!!

In addition to every other shitty thing that's going on with my extremities I've been dealing with off and on knee pain forever. It's been getting worse every winter and improves slightly in the summer with flares before storms. One knee got really bad this year, even walking has been setting it off ... ANYWAY, I finally got them x-rayed and, big fucking surprise -- OA in both knees. Early stages so doc recommended supplements and Synvisc. Had left knee done yesterday. HOT DAMN!!! I got me an improved knee! It's like he waved a magic wand! I cannot wait to get righty done this coming Monday.

BTW, WORST fucking shot I've ever had in my life, seriously, but it was just the jab, after that, blessed relief! I'm just sorry I waited until now to get this addressed, the last 18 months haven't been fun.

Oh, and tomorrow I get an MRA on my left shoulder, then next week major PRP/prolo in both arms, blech. But I can walk up and down the stairs with less pain, wooohooo! It's the little things, y'know?

wow thats great news. I've been suffering with terribly painful arthritis in both knees since 2004. Its been extra bad lately and I'm almost crippled. I guess I need to get it looked at and come up with a plan for pain relief. i have to go up and down stairs one step at a time and holding on to the railing. cant get up from a seated position without the use of my upper body strength to lift myself. I'm basically fuct

Mine is early stage but I relate to the "one step at a time" stairs method and needing to pull myself up to stand (and with multiple RC tears that's been real fun). I'm surprised nobody recommended Synvisc to you before (assuming you're not allergic to eggs or chickens). If it works, it'll last longer than corticosteroids. My insurance covers it totally, don't even need a precertification. They've changed the formula so it's just one shot every six months instead of a series of three.

My sports med. guy also told me to go on 1000 to 2000 mg of a good omega 3 blend (I finally found one that doesn't give me indigestion) and glucosamine/chondroitin. I'd taken it before and it helped my joints but I had GI problems with it -- didn't know at the time I'm intolerant of shellfish. Found a non shellfish formula and started that this past weekend.

Actually, they aren't, not for arthritis.

Speaking for myself, I can't take narcotics anyway. Every type I've ever tried made me sick as a dog. Being in agony + puking is a special type of hell.

Synvisc is a viscosuppliment that works like a time-release cortisone. We make a ton of products that are used in conjunction with that device (technically it's a device, not a drug).

The only downside of Synvisc is that it takes a full six weeks to feel its effects. They made some claims that patients could feel it in four weeks and got their hands slapped. Then they did some clinical studies and sort-of proved it can work in four weeks, so that's their official stance now.

I know I'm not crazy, Plunk. My doctor said some people feel something immediately but to expect maximum improvement in four to six weeks. For once I lucked out.

Like I said, I'm early stage, some doctors might just tell me to take Advil *shrug* I think my doctor's reasoning here is early intervention/slowed progression, plus without the pain you actually feel like doing something and exercise helps OA. He said he's got one pt. that's been on the stuff for five years and is happy as a clam. Who knows what they could come up with in five or more years? :whatever: It was less than ten years ago Synvisc was a series of three shots and now it's one big blast.

I'm actually pretty familiar with hyaluronic acid, I was taking it as a dietary supplement last year (didn't do shit that I could tell, but it makes a great moisturizer when applied topically).

yup...stuff works great...didn't give me overnight relief though, but definitely made a difference...been getting it twice a year (i think) for a number of years...haven't been back for a while and i'm getting pretty stiff/achy...thanks for reminding me...oh and, they should call the device they use to administer the injection a "needle"...it looks more like a fuggin' PIPE...gotta be at least an 18 guage...aie carumba.
