So i was prescribed Adderall...

but i'm too scared to take it :(

I hear the negatives far outweigh the benefits, and although my GP was very thorough when prescribing it, i'm quite adamant it's completely necessary.

Anyone have experience with this type of med?

Provigil is better for focus.
If you got ADHD, though, then no.

Just be responsible and don't abuse it.

My brother takes it, and he's a radiation oncologist.

I take provigil when I have to focus on a research project or behind on grading papers.

Its fairly safe in low dosages, in the long term.... your body will become dependent on it.
Just like any other substance.
The d2 elevation is less than dextroamphetamine, but more gradual and less sharp. I Know this because of a research project a former friend did on combining medication with meditation as treatment for adhd and cognitive behavioral treatment.
Good Luck Dude.

Thats a horrible drug to start taking bro Of course a couple speed freaks are gonna jump in here and defend it.But There is a reason it is in the same Class as Oxycontin and Morphine it will ruin your life dont fuck with it.

It, like many other drugs, even the joose, CAN, ruin your life. everyone is different, and like anything as powerful as addy, moderation and a non abusive consumption of the product. Adderall is no where as addicting as morphine or oxy, I take a one month break every 6 months from it and alls that happens is my A.D.D. starts becoming more apparent again, I dont have any adverse affects from halting its use.

Yeh i've got ADD apparently, but it kinda makes sense now looking back on my behaviour.
I'm guessing provigil isn't for me.

I don't think it would be possible for me to abuse it. For one i don't have an addictive personality and secondly, i'm not too sure about taking it. I think i wanted to hear more feedback from those who take it under medical supervision as opposed to those who haven't been prescribed it...

p.s do all chicks here get called 'dude' and 'bro'?

I took it for years bro thinking that I "needed"It for my adhd like the good Dr said and it only caused more problems for me.Stay away from this CRAP bro ADHD is a stupid bullshit pshyc disorder that Last i heard Only this country recognizes.

This is interesting because i don't know one person in or around my life that has been diagnosed with this..

Look at Dr. Amen's prefrontal cortex, and glucose levels of patients with adhd.
You think with all the stimulation going on, through a culture that is all about being stimulated, that there would be no effects?

Yeah, I'm not going to get into a dialogue on what is real, and what is unreal, but... it appears a deficit on focus is prevalent.

Me, I think it's over prescribed.
However, PET scans do not lie.

I believe Ariel is giving the best advice possible here.Me, I'm an x junkie just hoping to keep someone off very hard drugs is all.

Thanks. What did you get it prescribed for - ADHD/ADD? So what do you use now?
ADHD. i took it for school and stuff. if your in school i would recommend taking it. are you male or female? are you a bodybuilder or just trying to look good and in shape? i quit taking it period. i regret not taking it last semester bc i failed out of UNO bc i couldnt pay attention.

LOL at failing out of UNO bro whats next delgado?

I'm not in school..those years are long over unfortunately. I have just recently begun a Masters programme though. And i'm female...I've always struggled with focus but it's never effected my academic studies...i think maybe i just worked harder and assumed everyone had the same problems..
Ariel thanks for the info, and Shrimp too. i understand where you are coming from if you've abused substances in the past, so thanks for looking out. My initial concern is that GPs tend to dish out drugs too freely here and i just didn't want to be another statistic that had to take meds that weren't necessary. But my examination seemed quite thorough. I just wanted to hear from people who have or do take it and hear their experiences etc
