Smart Phone Peeps, what do U recommend?

I've had My I phone since July 1 2007, however, my mom has just finished her blackberry contract and wants to get used to using the Iphone. She's gonna upgrade to 3g. She's gonna switch numbers, but finish out my contract. I owe her cause hell this will help out the old credit.

I need a new phone. I don't wanna get another I phone, I loved it, however I wanna change. For Smart Phone Users, PDA type Users, what do U recommend? I have my eye on maybe a PanTek Matrix, or a SamSung Propel, or like maybe even Blackberry.

I dunno. What do U guys us? The 3G is getting mad reviews, however, all I ever used was the Iphone, and would like to have something to compare to. Any recommendations.

BTW, this type of behavior in which I'm getting pwned by consumerism and putting so much effort in just a fucking phone, is iconic of our culture, its kinda ironic cause this is the type of behavior I despise in peeps, but through conditioning and whatever, have become more of a phone whore than ever. I still don't text alot, however, since I just graduated and wanna keep in touch with some friends, it looks like its gonna happen.

Future projections say that if U don't have a cell phone in the future, as it will hold your medical records and identity, u basically won't exist.
It seems the future is coming at us so quickly... LOL

I have the 3G now and can't wait to switch it out for a bold. Screen isn't as big, but its much sharper. Its much more business oriented. And stay away from the BB Storm, its garbage.

I never had any problem with my palms as long as they ran Palm OS. But I agree with you on the Windows OS phones. They freeze up often and when they are working the run sllloowww.

Shit U guys have helped me immensely, thing is like consumer reports were high I believe on both the Iphone and the BB bold, however, they stated Iphone was just like more for fun and lifestyle. Thing is I don't use the phone for business oriented yet, Going to Med School in August, so it would be more of a study buddy than anything else.

The only blackberry I wouldn't get is the Storm from verizon. I don't like the way it's touchscreen works, you actually have to click it like a mouse. From what i read there's been a lot of disappointment with it. Seems like you can't type very fast with it

See dude, like that is one thing U really hit on, like I'm gonna be typing more due to more texting due to graduating and moving to another state, fucking Iphone sucks when it comes to typing. I mean it really sucks, I feel like a panzy, cause like me and some 16 year old girl right now are probably like bitching about the same thing... Iphone typing. Yeah, for a hyper typer like me, where brevity is not my strength... it really, really gets frustrating. So yeah, thats another reason for the change.

Phone choice has become almost a question that easily is more associated with identity now than any other item. LIke, I wrote a paper protesting this, but find myself a year and a half later doing the exact same thing.

Ender I really really want the HTC Fuze however I can't afford the 549 price., however I'm on AT&T and like them.
Also, I don't wanna do a 2 year contract, cause I like to get a newphone every year. I guess I could upgrade I was thinking of doing some thing weird like just buying the blackberry curve for 349, then using at a pay as U go plan, so no contract. I hate contracts. I figure putting on like 100 dollars of minutes should cover me for like 3 months with their pland of 10 seconds a minute and 1 dollar a day. Plus U get rollover action as well.

Do U think that is stupid, I figure I would end up spending 80 a month with their nation wide plan and this would run me 1000 a year, if I go pay as U go I would end up spending like 400 a year, and I could get a new phone like next year when the Google HTC, come out in November. What do You think about that, is that a bad idea?
The only thing is I wanna keep my KC number even though I still live in San Fran/ and Vegas for the next 2 months.
How is the Mac?

actually kinda happy, but kinda sad, thats december for ya.
Like I'm happy cause its been a great year, but sad that like all the old friends and professors from JFK University, I won't see again. Also sad that I have to move out of my Uncle's 4000 square feet fucking pad of pads, in the suburbs, and in February for a research project I"m doing at University of Missouri in Columbia I will have to move back to the 700ish range apartments, which are not bad, but shit... I got used to being spoiled, and now its back to reality.

I'm happy that in Jan I'll see the GF again, this time we fly to Puerto Vallarta and I don't have to pay for my tickets cause I"m going on a vacation with parents, who want to meet her. I just hope she behaves and doesn't do anything that will give them a bad impression. She's dated a Filipino before and knows how like Al Pacino ish as in loud, feisty, and idealistic Filipino Women can be, so I'm kinda happy, but antsy. I dunno, I feel weird cause I really, really miss the campus scene. Undergrads always coming and going, the eyecandy was superb.

Already graduated, even had my thesis published, which will be in the March Issue of the Journal of Transpersonal Psychology... I graduated with a degree in Integral Psychology, which is an emerging field combining neuroscience, humanistic psychology, and eastern philosophy/mysticism psychology reconfiguring the notion of the self. Its huge on the West Coast, Huge in Denver, in the Bible Belt its not popular at all, on the East Coast its building as well.

It will be the pschology of the future in the next 10 years as meaning and interconnection are becoming more needed dude the increasing alienation, isolation, narcissim, depression, meaninglessness. that is exponentially plaguing our culture.

Going to Med school in August though, psychiary is my aim. If U are doing something nonlinear, U gotta have the linear toback it up. Plus, I would get kicked out of the family if I didn't have an MD behind my last name.... I'm kidding, but not really.

I have spent like the last two days reading so much about smart phones. LIke the I phone was a gift and before that my cell was a piece of shit nokia that I brought out west from missouri. Anyway, like I figured I would save money by buying the Blackberry Curve 8310, fits me perfect, cause I don't make like 1200 minutes a month or anything like that, but I'm on the phone now more than ever, due to talking and texting cause of keeping contact with ex grad peeps, family, GF and a few of Yous.

So, I want something other than the Iphone which U can't type worth a shit on. So, I have spent hours like reading and researching and talking to AT&T if it is possible for me to get a blackberry curve 8310 on the go phone plan. Im not doing another 2 year contract costing me 80 a month.


AT&T gave me a different answer everytime I asked if I could use the blackberry on the go plan, finally I got lucky and this chic 3 wayed with her supervisor, and a nokia specialist and I can use the Nokia E71, which rates almost as high as the Blackberry Curve, Plank was righ to stay away from the Pearl, I also think the storm is not gonna be for me. I can't afford to buy the HTC Fuze, or the BlackBerry Bold, so for under 400 the Nokia E71 looks like she's gonna be mine.

I have never thought it was possible to be so douche like about a fucking phone. I mean my bane of existence for the last two days has been over a fucking phone. The sad thing is, now I wanna know more.

Yeah those rated very high, thing is I don't want to do another 2 year. I got so pwned by my Iphone, like I loved it, but looking back now, I am gonna need a phone that is a little more practical. Even though I'm talikng and texting way more, and in 09 I can't be as frivolous with funds.

However, I can't afford the 599 price tag if I get it without a 2 year. Plus, AT&T just informed me that they are not sure if the Blackberry OS will work with Medianet. I'm a moron about these things. Like I have no clue about HPDSA, or EDGE, or whatever,
So yeah, the best bet for me was to go go with the next best thing, the Nokia E 71, which ranks super high in Europe, but not shit in states due to it being Unlocked.

Anyway, its a decent phone, and I figure I will be spending like a total of 30 to 40 a month tops on the Go phone plan. So that saves me for 2 years, well about 1200 bucks. I've been fortunate the last year, but in Feb its back to apartment livin, so yeah I need to frugalize quick.

The Mac is good. Never looking back.

The problem isn't the phone per see. The problem is the OS. I just got tired of WinMo crashing all the time on me.

For me, the Curve was the best choice for right now. I still got two years to go in my contract otherwise I would of gone with a GSM phone so I can get a cheaper phone.

I wouldn't worry about the Android just yet.

I got mine for $200, and for $70 I have unlimited everything + tethering.

That aint bad, see I got my I phone as a gift, so I didn't pay the 400 they wanted the month after the 8Gs came out. Yeah, thing is I payed 70 a month and I really felt it was kind of a waste, I mean I don't took some pics that were posted up here, but like the only thing I would wanna take pics of say in Grad School was hawtie undergrads and grad students, however, yeah they kinda frown upon pervin out as a TA, wouldn't help my future of trying to get a professor gig here later.


I figured I would have spent like 1120 though in 16 months. If I buy the Nokia E 71, which is like hottest phone in Europe, yet not here, but rated as high as the Bold, I can get for like 370, and only spend 35 to 40 a month. So instead of spending like 1680 in 2 years, would have been 2000 if I paid for my phone, I will only spend like half that. Plus I want the Android Google style when it comes out. I hate having the same phone for over a year. I'm geigh like that.

I agree, the blackberry bold is solid, the Nokia E71 is in Europe, what the Blackberry is to the States.
In the ratings by cnet they rated it a hair betta than the Bold.
Either phone I think is fucking solid.
Since the Nokia E71 has come down from 500 to 370, I can afford it.
I'm not going into another 70/80 plan for 2 years. I will buy it and then spend like 30/40 a month on the go phone plan.
Still, Traz, U are right, the Bold is no joke, better phone than the 3G by far.

Dude I"m in my parents house in Lake Las Vegas, its 17 minutes from the strip, and even though its like not loud, scenic as hell, and have a RitzCarlton across the Golf Course, I have been going there late at night after the parents crash, cause neighbors mustve turned off their wireless, so I went to the Hotel, gotta cup of coffee for like 6 bucks, but used their computer center all night. They asked me what room I was in and just said 437.

I love the area where my folks live, hell I just stay in the guest house Kato Kaelin like. I wanna just bum it out till August when Med School starts, but fuck, they aren't having it, heading home on the 2nd.

I haven't slept in like 37 to 40 hours. I seriously am not worried, or nervous bout anything, I think its just the holidays, and I just graduated and kinda wierded out by this whole transition...

Eddy, hey yeah, here is the thing Eddy, like my parents in order to get me to stay in touch better with them last year in July got me an 8gig Iphone, well I hate phones or used to, but loved my I phone, I didn't start texting till like 2 months ago cause of GF and now that I graduated, and moving to another state and university for a small part in a psych research social psych study, I'm gonna probably use more minutes in keeping touch with fam, grad friends, GF, and texting and talking to a few peeps here. I was in a 2 year deal with my Iphone and my mom is gonna finish out my contract from Jan to July.

I figure I can use the go phone plan and spend 40 a month with unlimited minutes using a smart phone that is better than the Iphone3g, which is an awesome phone, but if U wanna text at all, or post up, like I know I will be doing alot while traveling or whatever, than yeah no go.


I knew nothing at about phones, until the last 3 days I have studied the fuck out of them. The blackberries are solid,exept the pearl and even the storm are kinda disappointing.



I found the Nokia E71, which is actually ranked a bit higher than the BlackBerry Bold, and huge in Europe, but since its unlocked here, doesn't get any love. Its perfect for what I wanna do. Plus it came down from 500 to now 370. The reviews are excellent all the way around,


I figure I can still get the Google Android when it comes out or if I get sick of this bad boy after one year.


Its just a fucking phone, but due to this culture becoming embedded in expression, online culture now being culture, and communication/influence being a prereq for any business, phone has become a commodity that has embedded as a commodity of identity.
Oh well.

Yeah, the 8 week layoff is over in Jan. Im hitting it hard with monsterdrol and lipoflame, and going back to clean diet and 6 days of 60/90 minute cardio sessions.

I need to back to 12% before feb 10, cause going to Puerto Vallarte with GF, so gotta lose th 13 in like 5 weeks. Fuck, I've got a good metabolism, but yeah I got some work to do.

I figure If I can by March I can be around 175 ish and around 12% if I dedicate myself. Then I wanna do a 12 week test prop only cycle. I'm not advanced and too scared to mix gear. I've only done 2 cycles of tren in the past both 6 weekers but after I.5 years of more weight training, I did increase from 145 to 180 around 14% bf.

I'm hoping by May I can be and keep my body aroundd 182/185 ish and be like 10%. Thats my goal though.

I think in the past u have went DBOL, but this time I see U as a tren ace/ or test enth. guy for this upcoming one.

Yeah the storm got like mixed reviews.
I think I would rather have it than the 3g.
Mom just got her 3g today 8G 199 upgrade.
Good thing she's taking over my old contract.

I think 40 dollars max, with Unlimited net use and 10 cents a minute a dollar a day go plan with a nokia E71 is gonna be grand.

Samoth, the thing is U and I were in the same boat, I didn't change this drastic till I got on EF and online culture in March, then it just dominoed, I didn't start texting till like 2 months ago cause of the GF, I used the phone like a phone. Dude I"m in Vegas, right now with folks, and they live in Lake Las Vegas, so its like 17 minutes from the strip, still... Like I dunno this city just sends out weird vibes to me, like I'm nowhere near the strip, yet I can't sleep worth a shit, and I dunno, its just weird. Its not a bad city, not at all... Yeah it's settled no htc touch pro, no blackberry bold or curve, no 3G 16G, or Samsung whatever.
Iphone was fun, but now that I'm into actually typing and online alot more than ever and not real interested in photography, and refuse to sign another 2 year contract for 80 or more, I figured with the 3g for 450 minutes with tax it would cost 107 a month. Way too much for my poor ass.
I'm just gonna buy this bad boy for 400 and go on a pay as U go AT&T plane that will run me like 40 a month.This bad boy got rated as high and a little higher on some reviews than the BB Bold. I don't want anymore touch screen action anyway.

Locked=Subsidized, Unlocked means unsolicited by a major carrier.
Its so telling how the language used, reflects a binding, or constraining, or lack of freedom in accord to the relationship one has with this medium of communication/expression.

Oh locked means like its they will reduce the price, by 40 to 70% is U sign a 2 year deal. Unlocked means U buy the phone full price, and U as long as the carrier U use is compatible with the OS. AT&T, I talked to over 10 different times never getting a straight answer if I bought the blackberry bold or curve, not the pearl, its a POS, but yeah, they would not give me a consistent answer, the best they could do was that the blackberry bold shoud work, on the GO phone medianet no contract plan, but they could not guaruntee that.

Finally, an awesome rep got a 3 way with a nokia rep, and her supervisor and they confirmed that if I got the Unlocked Nokia E71, which is the Bold Equivalent in Europe, where it is Locked, or 'Subsidized' than I would be totally fine.

The thing is its like perfect for me, instead of spending like 97.08, a month for 450 minutes and internet on the Iphone, I will be spending like 35-40 a month with more online usage. The plan also offers the deal of 1 dollar a day 10 cents a minute, well I only talk to like 6 or 7 peeps for convo purposes anyway, so I'm thinking tops I'm paying anywhere from 35 to 50 bucks, which is a hellova lot better than my lowest phone bill of 70 a month.

The 3G is a great phone, and she will have alot of fun with it. I mean other than typing, its perfect.

I tried the HTC Touch (Vogue) for my 1st smart phone and like it.

Went to the HTC Touch Pro and couldn't stand that phone, didn't care for the thickness of it.

Took that back and got an HTC Touch Diamond and love the little phone.

I won't upgrade it until the HTC Touch HD is out and it may be a while for the CDMA carriers to get them.

WM 6 is tolerable and so far has been stable for me, but I don't run stock ROMs on my phone.

For you folks interested in the HTC line, check out PPCGeeks.com

If you like to unlock your phone(s) and run custom ROMs that's the place to be, especially for the HTC line of phones.

The carriers can bite me if they think I'm going to pay extra for the GPS service, tethering (Phone as modem) and all the other shit that these phones do. The custom ROMs allow you to do it all without paying the extra fees.

Yea, the Bold is nice.
I'd much rather have a real keyboard vs the onscreen crap.

My wife has a touch screen phone and she's always cleaning the smudges off the screen so she can see things better.

Seems silly to have this awesome bright screen that is designed to get fingerprints all over it.

So true, my new phone is the Nokia E71, the Blackberry Bold equivalent in Europe... I love it. Touchscreen's suck. I mean especially if U hypertype like myself.
