Signature pix take forever to download

I expect to get flamed for this, but I'm fairly new on these boards, and while I'm impressed by the site's ability to handle fancy signature files, pictures, animations, etc., I've got to say this stuff take FOREVER to download.

I've given up on trying to see photos on the "Pictures of our members" board, since they don't even start to appear until everyone's signature pictures download. Not to single out NinjaX, but on a board he's posted to frequently, I have to wait till maybe fifteen copies of his high-resolution signature picture have downloaded before I can see anything else on the board. I enjoy the man's posts, but endless copies of that picture get a little annoying.

If the signature pix were relevent, it might be different, but we have pictures of cars, pop albums, Arnold, random animations, you name it. Do we really need all this shit clogging up the boards over and over again?

Maybe after some of you guys use a signature pic (and we've all seen it about 400 times) you could change it or just delete it?

Maybe everyone else on this board has DSL, but I think I can't be the only one here with a 56K modem.

Anyone agree? Disagree? I'm just raising the topic to get other opinions.

DSL on one comp, 56k on other 2, never had a problem with any of them, Bring them back!!

I have a very very fast connection and computer and the sig pics make this board UNBEARABLY slow at times.

Several problems:

First, many of them are just too bigh (dimensions). Everyone trires to out-do one another.

Second, many of them are TOO LARGE in terms of FILE SIZE. I mean, if they were all like 20k, fine. There are people with sig pics that are like 300 k - THAT IS FREEGING RIDICULOUS (one chick mod has a sig like that).

Many people dont know how to edit JPGs and optimize them correctly. A lot of times a 100 k file can be editted down to like 20k - and you will NOT see a difference.

Plus ..... animated sigs? Movies? Please - get real.

Third - The pics are stored many times on other servers - and these servers can be very slow. Not only in bandwidth but in latency. This is why even pepople like me with fast connections, see a slow board.

Sigs add little to the board's efectiveness, and they take away a lot in terms of performance. I for one would vote to get rid of then all, or at least impose like a 20k max file size.

Yes, i know i can turn them off. But thats not the point. The point is that many people are messing up a good thing by having huge files, and slow servers, and everyone suffers.

Like I said in another thread, if it was like the personal elite fitness web pages that only allow a max of 250k per picture but instead only limit it to one sig pic it would make a huge difference. There are people on this board with larger than 300k pics hosted from other web sites, 25k limit there wouldn't be hardly any picture you could post at that small of a size. The 250k limit would be great.
