Bit of perspective... there was a middle-aged Japanese woman in one of my college classes (Creative Writing -- LOL!) and being a kid, I asked her about Japanese martial arts.

She said, "Oh, when I was little they taught us the sort of thing any girl should know --" and she proceeded to demonstrate a perfect finger spear, lightning quick, stopping about half an inch from my eyes! "...but I don't know anything about karate."
