rnch's temper, lil' brutha, today's newspaper...

my youngest brother was in a horrible car accident about 7 years ago, got t-boned by an drunk driver in an escalade who ran a red light..pushed the passenger side of his car into a telephone pole, the pole had him pinned between the driver's door panel and the pole the inpact was so severe.

he's been in constant pain since then, cannot work, somtimes limps around with a cane. his back/neck x ray is a terrible site to behold.

what with the pain, the prescribed (and other stuff) meds, add in some alcohol...this polite, pleasant guy becomes a sarcastic, snide shit ass.

anyway, i stop by mom's house yesterday to visit her, due to too much overtime at work i hadn't been by in 3 or 4 days.

just as i walk in the kitchen, my lil' brutha is SNARLING at my mother "DON'T GIVE ME ANY SHIT, MA, JUST GIMMIE SOME GODDAMN MONEY!"

i lost my (in)famous temper, once again. all i could see was a red circle with my brother in the center of it.

i bellow at him "WHAAAATT? YOU SHOW SOME RESPECT FOR OUR MOMMA, BOY! DON'T YOU EVERRRR TALK TO HER THAT WAY AGAIN!"

i picked up the daily newspaper and start swatting him on the head and chest and arms as hard as i can as i herded him towards the door.

as he is staggering down the driveway i scream at him "DON'T YA SHOW YA SORRY ASS HERE EVER AGAIN UNTIL YOU LEARN SOME GODDAMN MANNERS!"

my sister, who witnessed this sorry outbreak of emotion, berated me for being so "hard on him", that he is in a great deal of mental and physical pain, that we should make allowances for him........

do ya'll think i was out of line with him?

he wudda NEVER disrespected my Mother in that way if my Father was still alive!! :kaioken:

If his behaviour has changed since the accident, there could be many reasons. Usually psychological.
So, beat his ass all the way to help.

Hell, I would have beat his ass worse than you did. There is NO EXCUSE to talk to your mother like that. None. I have ZERO PATIENCE for people who use crappy situations as an excuse to treat the people around them like shit. Hell, I'm getting mad thinking about it and she isn't even my mother.

that's because your father would have used something other than a newspaper..

I understand pain.. now go to him and talk to him.. it's all good..

Respect for our mother is the greatest respect of all. Your mother raised you and fed you and kept you alive. You owe her all the respect in the world. You did the right this bro. Good for you.

What he said was, in my opinion, totally out of line!

My mother is in severe pain and is on more than 20 meds - the combination of which makes her throw up a lot :(

I would have more than hit my brother with a newspaper if I saw him talking in that way!

you did the right thing bro, he can't prolly sustain much physical punishment if he's as bad off as you say, he's just lucky that you used the newspaper. I think that I'd to have put a foot in his ass. You can warn him though, next time it's a beatin, don't ever let me hear you talk like that to MY mom again, you do and it's your ass.
I understand he's in pain, prolly pissed at the world, but he chooses to put alcohol into the mix, if I folowed your post, he's a decent guy until he gets to drinking. That part is under his control....

Then you should have kicked your sister dead in her ass and told her that the next time she has an oppinion on how you handle your brother when he's disrespecting your mom, she can be next. Her choice....

Newspaper?I would have picked up 2x4 and knocked his fuckin orbital bone out.Nobody fucks with my mother But I guess you handled it well.

Well is he happy in the rest of his life? Maybe this is an outburst rooted from other problems besetting him. Not to be Dr Phil on your ass, but people don't just become angry at people for fun. Usually they're stressed out and unhappy and seeking an outlet for that anger. Women are notorious for this tactic. :)

Never talk to a lady like that

Anyhow I also see his life,
chronic pain, depression, addicted to painkillers(possibly harder stuff), and alcohol.
He's basically sick man
I have no answer

the baseball bat next to my mother's bed was not within grabbing range.... :artist:

Bro, I'd have a serious conversation with your brother, while he's not been drinking. You can sympathise w/ his health situation, and tell him that your sorry that life seems to have given him a very raw deal.
BUT, but that his drinking has got to stop if he wants to have a relationship with you. Thenn he'll throw it back at you that you do and other shit that you've done, so be it, but YOU don't talk to yalls mother like that. I'd just tell him that he's not the same person when he drinks and that's fine if he wants to stay that way, you don't have to be around him. But your mother does, and that type of behavior isn't something that you can ever look over. You'll always love him, he's your brother, but you don't have to like him. If he treats your mother like that again, or you hear of him doing it, there's going to be consequences between you and him. period. end of story.

Ask him if you can help him get the help he needs, anything that will stop his behavior. Let him know that you are will to go to any length to help alleviate the problem before it escallates any further.

That's my 2ml, hope it all turns out for the better.

Alcohol never helped me out in any way, the few laughs I had in the earlier years didn't hold a candle to the gallons of tears later in life.
