It's similar with mens clothing. An XL t-shirt has a 50" circumference, and a size 32 in jeans fits a 40" waist.

In shape people don't make up the bulk of the population, nor the majority of the sales, thus marketing appeals to the majority or common person.

I know in the 50's and 60's sizes were way different then now

I can't remember for sure but I do remember them saying that 4 was the new 2 if that helps any.

Then I have the issue of them not fitting my hip are my large ass. The cut in there bottoms are not make for a womens figure.... I think I may give up and go live on a nude beach..
