Question about workout routines???

I do not like to lift shoulders with chest because my shoulders feel too weak after doing chest. I like to mix it up. Sometimes I do 1. back/bis, 2. chest/tris, 3. legs, 4. shoulders. Other times I do 1. chest, 2. bis/tris, 3. legs, 4. back/shoulders. I usually do a four day split.

Maybe I should mix mine up more. I never even gave it a second thought as to my shoulders and chest. I want to get the most out of every single workout I do. Thanks.

Sometimes I even do a five day split: 1. chest, 2. back, 3. legs, 4. bis/tris, 5. shoulders. I think the more you split things up the more energy you can put into each muscle group while also having some time and energy to do cardio! I think mixing it up really helps keep me fresh though.

I think I'm going to make up 3 schedules and alternate them, this way I won't get bored with a particular workout and dred doing it.

Any routine you follow for a while, its good to mix it up. There is no one way to do things. Weider Confusion Principle :)

I agree. I will do the one I'm doing right now for the next few weeks then mix it up some. How often do you all work your abs? I do mine 6 days a week but I don't do the same ab routine 2 days in a row.

Generally there's no reason to train your abs 6 days / week. Training isnt' goign to get your 6 pack to show any sooner -- its all about the diet there. The abs are there but you have to get rid of the fat that often sits over them. The idea is that abs are a muscle group just like your tris, bis, chest, back, etc. and you don't train those groups more than 1-2 x/week - at least giving 48 hrs to recover. Plus you are working your "core" just by all the motions associated with many of the basic lifts (squat, deads, presses, most anything that involves stablizing your trunk). And generally if you work your abs a lot, you are building the muscle, but that can just end up makign you look "thick".

Currently I'm not really doing "ab exercises" but rather ab stretches and I do those on my "off days" - I train 2 days on / 1 day off.

I never thought about it from the point of making me look thick,God knows I don't need or want that. I do alot of core stretching. I do a complete stretching routine after I workout. I enjoy it alot it relaxes me on top of all the other benefits of breathing and relaxing into a stretch. It's one of my favorite parts of the workouts. Maybe I should knock it off to 3 days a week,I'm working for the slim toned look, not bulk in my waiste.

Abs are all about diet.
