Pressing straight back to the uprights

OK. Can anyone tell I have alot of free time?

SO... while benching yesterday I noticed that while my arch is improving, I am now pressing from my lower chest/upper abs (not quite an ab bencher) right back into the uprights of the bench, and I'm missing the lock out.

So I am benching out from my chest instead of up. Guess I just need to practice that. This is with the shirt on, too.

Any pointers, or do I just need to practice my bench more? I know that the shortest bench is straight up, but for some reason the bar goes right over my head....

Thanks....

you will naturally bench back over your head as you press up. if you are hitting the uprights you may just need to scoot down the bench a couple inches when you lay down

OK. I have a bench contest tonight and it will be my second attempt at 500. Just worried I'll bomb because I don't lock it out properly.

I'll post results tomorrow. I can't post pictures for some reason...

Thanks, Dev.

work on your transition and flare your elbows quicker

you dont want the bar over your head i dont know anyone who is strong in that postion but the bar does move towards the face (just remember to catch it) once you come off the bottom

lockout is prolly somewhere around the throat..think of a lineman would you want to be pushing someone with your head down and arms extended over your head? youre prolly a lot stronger pushing from the pec line

Well I just pressed 500lbs. I am so friggin happy!!!!!! I tried it about 6 weeks ago and missed it. I think my setup was off. Today it flew up. I'll post pictures and video if I can figure out how...

Powerlifting is cool.

You might try practicing pushing the bar towards your abs as the bar rises. Sort of like trying to push away from your body while still going up.(I'm not sure if my explanation makes sense, it's hard to describe this stuff in writing) I find that I can only get the bar to go straight up with no drift is to intentionally trying to push it away from the uprights.
