CS, cut me some slack man... I thought it would be an entertaining, constructive thread :)
You know me, I am not the one who usually start crappy threads... am I?

good mornings for me, man they will work some miracles to the whole backside of your body :)

if you could do narrow stance goodmorning with 500lbs for reps, I'd bet you'd be freakishly explosive and strong :p

I would say neither squats or deadlifting. I would say the rowing would hit all muscle groups of the body

An interesting choice.

Exercise is a rather ambiguous word as it can be applied in many contexts; lifts would have been better. If one decides to take this particular path then by far the most physique altering exercise is eating; eating will have a bigger impact on your physique then any other single cardio or compound movement. Furthermore, if one does not eat, any amount of rowing, squating and long distance running will be a waste of time similar to that of having to reply to such an ambiguous and opaque thread.

Let us give GJohnson the benefit of the doubt that his intention was to infact play devils advocate and make people pay more attention to the wording of the question, as opposed to a letting the discussion sink into a squat Vs Deadlifting thread; which - lets face it - was a matter of time.

However, since the thread is indeed in the Weightlifting area, then it is far enough to say that the term 'exercise' is meant in a 'lifting' context over any other. I which case we would do well to recognise this, rather then letting the thread turn into a rather pretentious, and pointless point scoring opportunity.

My vote goes to Squats, in my opinion they form the core of any 'physique changing' routine.

is this a sticky, its on teh first page and yet it hasnt been responded to in two years. But Im going to say deadlift for me...
when i started deadlifting within one month my bi's grew, my back grew, my legs grew, my ass grew, abs grew, traps EXPLODED, delts grew, I mean i didnt even realize that i used half of the muscles that grew.... but my body REALLY responded to having to deadlift alot of weight, wierd but awesome....

squats helped my lower body but i believe upper body makes ur physique look alot more different then lower body to the average person.

There are different types of cleans however "hang cleans" are the best, if you just do this everyother day you will get strong, fast and ripped

90 degree rowing will give you an overall thick back, bigger shoulders, thick forearms and big biceps, it will strengthen your core which if your cut will make your abs bigger/more defined, it will also give you better hip and glute stability....

lol....this was bumped by a poll vote

Since this thread is alive again...

Cleans are good but, given someone who trains like a BB or a power-lifter (i.e., not a pro), heavy snatch training will likely have the largest impact.
