(PBR, Curling, Crak 600) I'm an idiot : Motorcycle Brakes!!!!!!!!!!

How much speed will three teeth up take off on the top end crak?

About 5-6 mph. Plus your speedometer will show that you're going about 5-6mph faster than you really are. On older bikes where the speedo cable was attached to the front wheel this wasn't an issue, but the newer ones have it on the transmission final output shaft (I think that's where it is) so when you do resprocket, it doesn't know there's a difference, as it's measuring before it gets to the final drive (sprockets).

5mph isn't shit though. The only issue I had with mine was getting it to redline in 6th was unattainable after a +3 rear sprocket was added, but that could've been my carbs too as I might not have had them jetted 100% correctly. I was able to get it showing 165mph but not the 170mph that I was showing with stock gearing.

Plus you'll take off a little bit faster. Take note, however, that you'll have to apply a little bit more weight to the front end to take off hard, as it will have more of a tendency to want to rise up on you. The front tire on my F4 would get a little light if I took off hard and didn't put weight on the front end, which you should be doing on any bike if you're launching aggressively and don't have a wheelie bar.

And she's fully bled, right? If one caliper is working and the other isn't, then it's down to one of 2 things - either the one caliper has a problem OR there's a blockage in the brake line. If you have not removed the brake lines yet and checked them to see if there's a blockage, I suggest you do so. A brake line is a lot cheaper than a caliper. Just trying to get you to fully eliminate any other possible problem before you spend money that you don't need to spend.

Curling - I couldn't see a caliper warping. Not enough heat generated inside the caliper to warp anything. Rotors can warp, yes, but you'd have to take a blow torch to the caliper to make it warp.

Patsfan - if you're going to get new calipers and rebuild them, why not just rebuild the ones that are on the bike now? Save yourself some money, unless you want to have a spare set around now, which I don't see much reason for.

Curling - I've been told Barnett makes better than OEM clutches by a few people, so I'd say go for it. If you want to save clutch life a little, the next time you replace your chain and sprockets, get a rear sprocket when 3 more teeth than the original. It'll make it to where you can just rip the throttle and power the bike up without a problem. You'll also take off a bit faster. If you still have to clutch it in 2nd (or 3rd) to pull it up, you won't have to be as aggressive.

i hear ya and understand. i am putting new ss braided lines on the front just for safeties sake. the calipers are going for 26 dollars right now.

im going to bleed the system dry tonight.

New EBC pads, braided front lines...doing it for safeties sake? :laugh2: :worried: Dude, you're gonna stop on a dime compared to OEM brakes. Once you get this sticking caliper issue sorted out, be easy on the brakes until you get a feel for them. Braided lines + good EBC pads = effortless braking. It's nice because you can 1 or 2 finger brake with ease, but I don't consider 1 or 2 finger braking to be safe unless you're just easing a little bit of speed off. It's not nice in that if you are in a situation where you have to panic brake (car pulls out in front of you) you could end up locking up the front tire.

I don't remember how much riding experience you have. Have you taken an MSF course? I took the intermediate course. They made us lock up the rear tire at I think 25mph and bring the bike to a full stop with the tire locked. That's the easy part. The hard part was continuing to look forward with the back end wiggling a little bit.

They ragged on us for 1 and 2 finger braking as well. They also yelled at me for going through one section of the course too fast. Well, they didn't yell at me, they just told me to slow down. They wanted us to go through at 15mph and I went through at about 30.

Good course to have under your ass.

if there is a kink or blockage in the lines I am going to replace them with stainless braided.

i'll be fine, thanks for your concern.

Just don't know how much you know or how long you've been riding, so I figured I'd give you a heads up on the additional stopping power of better pads and braided lines. :)

hey man, your help on this has been amazingly appreciated.

:) stay safe man.

ok. update. i tried to bleed them again with a vac bleeder. no dice. im 100% its the MC so Im taking it to the shop on Tuesday because if I go near it again im going to kick it over.

Probably a good call if you can't figure it out. Brakes aren't something to gamble with and half ass.

Update us when you get it to the shop. Hope it's not an expensive fix.
