it came stock at this ratio...dont know why...it is the smallest rear sprocket you could possibly fit on the rear hub...dont get it.
 
That bike has to be good for at least 165mph stock, more than fast enough. I rode a 900RR a few years back and I would've never messed with the gear ratio on that thing, it felt great stock. That bike had more pull than I knew what to do with.
 
Crak- as i said in an earlier post, i brought this thing back from the dyno and squirted to 160mph in a blink of an eye with no effort at all....ive been told that 180+ is top speed on a stock CBR 1000RR...
it is so aero-dynamic and so balanced...and there is absolutely NO HEAT transfer from the bike to the rider at all...NONE- anywhere...
you would freeze to death if you got caught in weather and wanted the bike to keep you warm on the way home....LOL
All my aluminum billet goodies dont fit!!!!!!! shit...gave me all the wrong parts...damn it
 
If it's capable, it's probably governed at 186mph stock. They started doing this a few years ago with the ZX12 and Hayabusa for fear that the american government would make them limit it lower. Something about in the early 90s the government flipped shit when cars being imported were capable of over 155mph bone stock and made them smack governors on them.

It's nothing that can't be overcome though. Look at Aprilias. Euro emmissions are less restrictive than US emmissions, but Swiss emmissions are worse than ours. Instead of making 3 different models, Aprilia made the euro model and the swiss/US model. We get the ultra shitty swiss restricted model that's only capable of about 138mph when imported. However, there's a wire on the computer harness that once you snip it, your Aprilia goes back to euro ignition and injection mapping. I was out on a ride a few years back and met a guy with an RSV Mille. He hadn't gotten the black wire snipped yet so he was stuck at 138mph max speed. A bunch of us were sitting alongside the road and I said just snip that shit already. I'm sure someone here has a knife and we can cut that wire right now. He had an "appointment" set up at the dealership for a week or so later to get the wire cut by them and wouldn't do it on his own. How fucking hard is it to cut one wire, especially when you know which wire it is?
 
i quit driving FORD TRUCKS for the very same reason. on his side tho- how many people told me a thousand different stories of where the fucking governor was on my trucks???? nobody knew WTF they were talking about...so i can see his point...

True, but even the magizines told you what to do to the Aprilia to kill the governor. The dealership even told him how, he knew what to do, yet he wouldn't do it himself.
