painfull swelling after quad shot.

I did a quad shot lastnight. I did as I always do, but it hurt really bad going in. I figured it was just scar tissue, and proceeded to aspirate. No blood. About 5 seconds after my shot, the site swelled up like a golf ball and was real tender. I have done many shots, and many cycles, but never had anything like this. It's a little better today. Any ideas?

What are you shooting? Any chance of infection/bacteria getting into your gear or syringe?

Give it some time....an infection doesn't happen seconds after the injection...probably just some inflammation

My bad, I neglected to read that it swelled up just 5 seconds afterwards.

BTW it was 1 cc of fina, have been using same stuff for 9 weeks with no problems. I always use clean syringes and never had any probs with my fina.

That's really strange to hear, I did almost the exact same thing. When I stuck the needle in it hurt like hell, but I pulled it out rather then pushing thru. It hurt real bad and was bleeding and the needle only went in about a quarter of an inch. I got another needle and injected a different spot. A while after I got a big black and blue lump that was tender to touch. This evening it seems to be less black and blue and is almost back to normal.
I have no idea what cased this!!

it seems that you may have ruptured a patch of capillaries, which you you rupture on any shot anyways, but maybe you ruptured alot? perhaps you may have hit a small vein as well? how big was the guage? make sure you dont drop a needle or somehow bend the pin... i did this once... and it hurt like hell

If the inflammation occurred immediately or relatively immediately after the shot, you probably casued a hematoma, or a rupture of blood inside the muscle. Hurts like crap for a couple of days. You may also experience "movement" of the inflamed area, like its traveling to another spot. The pain feels like sus, but unlike sus pain which peaks and subsides after about 2 days, the pain is intense for about 4-7 days. One difference between a hematoma and an abcess/infection (other than the fact that you exerienced the pain shortly after the shot) is that an infection will usually get progressively more painful and will be accompanied by increased swelling, redness and warmth at the site. In your case, you probably have a hemtoma. You choices are to go to the doc and have it drained or wait it out and pop advil-it will go away. After 7 days if significant pain persists, go see your doc.
