OXYCOTIN.....America's Newest Drug....

Oxycotin, a narcotic painkiller, made the cover of the New York Times Magazine Today. The drug supposedly takes all of "your troubles away" and gives you a high like nothing else. (Of course, we know, that it doesn't really take your troubles away.)

Apparently, the drug is making a wave throughout even smaller communities in the U.S.A., and is difficult to control since it is a prescription drug. The drug is also very addictive and the writer of the article states "Oxycotin operates like a Trojan horse, doing the most damage when it enters a community of people who don't think of themselves as serious drug users."

Have you tried Oxycotin? If so, what has been your experience?

There is a doctor in FL (I forget his name) that is going to trial for overdosing his patient on "Oxycontin" (spelled with a 'n'). If he is convicted, he will receive life in prison or the death penalty.

I had never used this stuff, but it is VERY easy to OD on. Most people that just use it as a recreational drug crush it up and snort it or they crush it up, mix it with water, and inject it. Either way is highly dangerous.

One minute you are high as a kite...the next minute you can be dead. This is not stuff to play around with at all....it's very dangerous.

I crushed some up into dust and rubbed it into my eyeball, but nothing happened except for the loss of vision I experienced.

From what I understand it is prescribed as OC-4000, and is used for pain relief in cancer patients. In other words, it is some strong shit.

I have never used it but I dated a girl who was addicted to it....she would take it orally at times but also would occasionally snort it.....she had a propensity for snorting things.

Anyway - when she was on it, she was pretty numb, easygoing, but not really present in reality. As such, meaningful conversation was rare when this occured.

Contrast this with her cocaine use which caused her to bounce off of walls initially, stay up all night, and then (the next morning) be a miserable bitch.

It was usually these mornings when she would go for the OC 4000. It definitely causes a deadening of senses, especially of pain.

The long term effect (I was with her over a year) was the deadening of an awareness of reality at any time. As the time wore on, she had less emotional interest in almost anything....even her child was kind of an afterthought in time.

Anyway, I see it as addictive for people that are afraid to face the day to day challenges of life because it clearly masks them.

I can't speak for the rest of the country, but here in ... Mass, the drugstores are having to reevaluate their stocking procedures and their security solely due to this drug.
one night about a week ago there were three drugstore robberies, all thought to be the same group, and in all of them, all they took were the entire supply of this drug.

this is now the highest selling drug in the states, overtaking viagra which looked to be unstoppable. the only thing we love more than sex is addiction I suppose.

many people are comparing it to a heroin in pill form.

The FDA just Red Flaged OC friday it's the highest restraint level they can put on a drug without pulling it off the shelf.

My mother-in-law, The-over-the-counter-drug-addict is on OC and so is her brother. They're more hooked than a crack head in a coke factory!

I believe the heightened concern for Oxycotin is due to the increase in addiction and use by rural and suburban Americans. As RyanH stated in his post that Oxycotin addiction has been more prevalent in communities were its has become social accepted. Its relatively easy to use and acquire. Its use amongst young addicts mimics a growing trend in the party drug scene. Narcotics such as ecstasy and other well know party drugs have become a national concern amongst suburban parents and communities.

The growing concern amongst politicians, rural and suburban communities I feel is because the victims of this drug represent a much different demographic....a more mainstream American face is attach to this epidemic. No longer are Americans assuming that drugs only affect poor inner city communities.

I've seen crackheads use oxy.I've seen fellow juicers use oxy too.I had a good friend die recently from an oxycontin overdose.All he was taking was oxy.I don't know how much he had.I do know it stopped his heart for good at the ripe old age of 22.

Oxy IS out there in mainstream america.As it has been said people that don't consider themselves to be drug addicts are becoming addicted.If this continues it will surpass ecstasy as the drug with the most media coverage.

From what I understand it is a very powerful narcotic, a synthetic morphione, which would put it in the heroin family.
