owning a gun vs using a gun on another human being

reading the jesus/god thread reminded me of something...
am lesson about not just "brandishing a gun"

some lil ganbanger wanna be got into a verbal confrontation with my ex husband..
he (the wannabe) reached into his pants like he had a gun exclaiming " ima gonna cap your ass!"
my ex had his .45 back holstered promptly drew it put the barrel right to the punks head (hard)
and said "you better be playing with your cock motherfucker"

kid pissed his pants on the spot and backpeddaled ina hurry

my point...dont carry a fuckin gun or threaten with a gun unless you intend to unload the entire fuckin magazine center mass pronto.....the ex knew the wannabe didnt have a gun..cuz he knew the kid and knew his mouth wrote checks his ass couldnt cash



I learned at some point in my life that I would empty a firearm into a child if there was a threat to myself or mine...a few people on this board will know what I mean by this..a few will misconstrue it



I personally don't keep a loaded unlocked gun in my house for protection, but god if you're going to...shoot first and ask questions later and be prepared for the ramifications that will resound through the rest of your life
...the statistics on gun owners being killed with their own guns are horrific

I keep guns in reach at all times. The only time I will draw, is as you said, to stop a deadly threat by unloading the whole magazine into it. God help me, I don't ever want to do that. But I can if I have to. You only get one chance in that circumstance. I personally know a police officer who shot & killed a child who was aiming a toy gun (at 3:00 in the morning, outside, in a bad neighborhood of Los Angeles). That was 25 years ago, and he still lives it on a daily basis. I completely understand the responsibility.

Just a word of warning - and this is from my brother who was a prosecutor and now a defense attorney - pulling a gun on someone is a felony. Usually punished by jail time - and this is in Texas.

Don't pull it out unless you have a very good reason or you intend on using it. You Ex was lucky he did not end up in the clink.

yeah, here we have an equal force law...respond with the amount of force youre presented with..

this would have been a grey area...
threatened with a "gun" responded with threat of a gun....

we're a concealed carry state tho (his was) but the fact that it was in a public place presents a prob

when I went through the police academy they taught us not only how to use a gun but how to disarm a person and use their gun against them and they made us practice over and over again until it was implanted into our brains. I am serious to the training they gave us as it was seriously burned into my brain so much that everyday I picture myself disarming someone and using their gun against themselves. The funny part about the training is the instructor told us you have every right to shoot the person you disarmed but to make sure you unload the entire fucking clip on them and make sure they do not end up with a hole in each hand...... think about it for a minute and I will clarify that statement in a minute if you don't understand it.....

YOu know i was going to bed when I saw this trhead and read all 3 pages and felt like i would chime in. I am not going to say weither or not you should carry a weapon. I will say this....you might think you are ok with taking someones life but i promise you that you are not. If you are a good person even if the situation totally requires the use of deadly force it will still haunt you. Even if there is absoultly no other option you will think about how it went down eveyday for the rest of your life. When you wake up in the morning and wash your hair in the shower you will think about it and then you will get pisse dbecause you realize you have only been awake for 5 min and it has already affected your day. You will wonder why you think about it and get anxious(sp?) even though it has been several years past. You will wonder what if any affect it will have on your afterlife. Its easy to sit back and talk about how you would cap a mother fucker on an internet chat board but in real life in real time....it sucks. Just my opinion.

Been a long time since I told this story on EF and I'm not feeling like retelling all the details, but I had to pull my carry once and it was exactly like you just described. I was full on fucking ready to put all six square in a guy's chest. To this day I am absolutely certain it was my demeanor, and not my weapon, that prevented the douche from getting killed and me from getting raped by his two homies. He could see I wasn't bluffing, and I wasn't too scared to use it to kill him.



Do not carry a gun unless you are fully competent to use it and are certain you wouldn't hesitate to kill someone with it if need be. If in doubt, carry pepper spray.

Your ex used this gun to escalate a confrontation into a potentially deadly situation.

This is NOT self-defense.

Also, I think carrying a .45 means you are more intent on killing people than stopping them from killing.harming you.

To stop somebody a .38 would be enough, a .45 means you want to blow them to pieces.

There are so many situations where adding a gun would just make everything so much worse.

I don't actually keep a loaded gun in my house because frankly with two vets with ptsd and three kids...someones getting killed...capiche?

There are some states like Florida that even if you feel your life is threatened you have the right to shoot someone.... They don't believe in escalation of force...

You're pissing at a rest stop after dark and you're the only one there. Two thugs walk up behind you and one says, "give me your wallet."

Do you pull out the gun right away or wait to be certain it's life or death? Keep in mind you likely won't know their full intentions until they're closer and you've lost any tactical advantage.
 
I would have a much harder time pulling my gun in a public place than in my own home. In my home, if someone is breaking into my house while I am there, I am not going to wonder if they intend any harm to me or my kids......I am going to assume with everything I am that they intend to kill all of us, and therefore, it would be a much easier decision for me.
