overtraining?

My girl's brother as been my training partner for about 6 months now and he as made good gains, but the problem is even with low volume (6 sets) he will stay sore 3-4 days after traing a body part. I for one believe in low volume while natural(which he is) but due chest on monday and still be sore on friday. Help if you can. By the way his diet is great.
 
he needs to eat more though...

like lee priest says "No such thing as overtraining, just undereating.."

Try putting him at 22 calories/lb bodyweight...

and maybe have him stretch more post workout..

Active recovery is another option.. the next day after a workout you go back in and do some really lite work on the same bodypart to aid recovery..
 
Try to get him to try supplementing sone glutamine into his diet maybe around 10-20 grams a day. That usually helps me a good bit. Most of the time I stay sore for about 3 days or so. That is why i only do one body part a week. I feel that if you dont get sore then you didnt go hard enough or you need to change something.
