For those people that put on 25 pounds on an 8 week cycle I think will have a harder time keeping that weight. When you go on a longer cycle you might not gain 5 pounds every week but I believe the gains are more solidified and your body builds support mechanisms for the extra weight you have added the longer your body is at this heavier weight. - cbeaks
........

This is a classic misunderstanding. It's undersatndable, because it seems to make sense. The problem is, the longer you stay on, the LESS capable you are of sustaining the gains once you come off. I'd like to hear from just ONE person that did a 16 week cycle, then came off and stayed off and held on to any of the gains a year later. Some may weight the same, but the added weight is just fat.

Permanent gains of 20 pounds from a single cycle? It can't be done. No how. No way. Consider yourself lucky if you get 5. And you don't need to be on for 3 months to gain 5 pounds.

Great response

Great response guys,

This surely must be one of the most fundamental questions.

Keep sending in your ideas.

It really depends more on drug selection more then any thing.
3 week prop, fina, d-bol cycles will no doubt work great.
If you are using long chain esters you're going to have to stay on longer.
One of my best cycles was 16 weeks of sus, primo and some d'bol near the end which I tapered with. Kept my gains awesome.
Also done short prop, d-bol cycles 3-4 weeks and had awesome results. It's all good.

Nelson, I know you are a very knowledgeable person but I tend to disagree with some of your statement. I went on a long cycle for the first time this year and I added 12 pounds of lean mass. I'm not talking just scale weight. I am talking about dry as a bone with less than 3% bodyfat in both situations on contest day. In no way was this extra weight fat unless I have accumulated fat underneath the surface of all this extra striated muscle I have added. By the way, this was after 6 years of weight training and 3 years of cycling. Every year I have competed I have weighed 12-16 pounds more on contest day than the previous year. - cbeaks

Well the problem here is that everything that the proponents of short cycles say, makes perfect sence. BUT, everything the proponents of long cycles say, makes sence as well. Gains being kept, IMO relies on your diet and TYPE of drugs used, or at least keeping water retention to a minnimum. Then Recovery is the second part of the equation. And so far many members are saying that they recovered a week or two faster. A week or 2 is not a big defference to me.

Also people that run cycles pretty much on a consistant basis, like FONZ show their blood work on line and they are 100% healthy. So go figure this one out. It may all come down to personal preference in the long run. But from experience, low to mid dose cycles for 12 weeks worked really well for me.

cbeaks: I dont doubt what you're saying. But keep in mind, your goal is to peak on a particular day. As you said, you have a solid base and are continuing to grow, but how long have you stayed off in-between cycles?

gw: It's alldose dependant. Someone on HRT is never off and their blood levels will be perfect. But that doesn't mean that someone can do a non stop mega cycle and expect to remain side effect free.

I agree, it is all dose dependant. On a different point though, i used to think of myself as a large dose user and it made me worry. But then i discovered that my advanced, heavy dosed cycle of 500mg or sust per week was a foundation for a rookies first cycle here on EF, LOL!

I would also concur with Nelson that low dasages is where it's at. I got up to 275 lbs @ 6'3 with 13% BF. using cycles of 500mg of sust per week at the cycles peak. I did however cycle for 12 weeks at a time, sometimes 16 with the taper. Now 3 years later i am back in the gym and weigh about 240, but more chubby. IN another few months i will be back to a lean 240. BTW, i started at 180 flabby lbs, and it took 6 years of training and 4 years of cycling.

In the past I have followed the time on = time off. This year I will take off for 4 - 6 months or so after my show.
