Obsessedwliftin's path to the NPC.

You know I think you may be right. I didn't just wake up one day and decide oh look at me I am going to run 2g's a week in gear. I have been training all my life in one way or another. I have trained both in sports as well as martial arts for the majority of my life and have been a conditioned athlete for that time as well. I seriously started weght training about 4yrs ago. I suffered an injury and had to lay out for a year. I came back with a vengance after my umbilical hernia surgery and made a decision to go for the biggest challenge of my life which is to get on stage at the NPC Masters and take a top spot. After surgery I trained natty for a year. Dropping BF and regaining lost muscle. I ran a few cycles and got myself back decent after that time. I decided on my 39 birthday that I was going to make this way of life mine. I incorporated a team of people who either have been or are at the top of this game. One of my best friends is a urologist. He monitors my blood work sometimes weekly and sometimes monthly depending on how much gear I am running. I monitor my bp several times a day. Thanks to this site and alot of people here Ie: Radar, Nathan, and others I am very well versed on what AI's I need to run, based on what compounds I am currently running. I have a personal trainer who is a former IFBB pro that designs my training regiment and monitors it weekly for signs of overtraining. He also monitors my gains and tweaks from there as well. I have a sports nutritionist and one other MD who designs and tweaks my diet as needed. The truth is if you want to be competitive at this game you have to take calculated risks. You do have to decide for yourself if said risks are worth the reward. I decided that they were. Whether people think so or not, or think that I am trying to sound like a bad ass or not, not everyone can train like I am. Not everyone can run the gear that I do. However with a pro trainer, 2 MD's, well 3 if you count my mom, who knows what I am doing, and a licensed sports nutritionist I have taken every pre-caution to do this as safely as possible. AAS and competitive body building is a VERY personal choice and I recommned to any one reading this log to make damn sure you know what you are giving up to do so. I have to stay on right now. Would I rather PCT off? Yes. Will I pre-comp? Hell no. That in itself is dangerous. My HPTA levels will be shut down and I may have to start TRT as a result. This is one of those calculated risks that I spoke about. I am also 39 not 21. TRT would be inevitable for me to continue this sport anyway. I say all this to say. I have done my research. I know the dangers and I know the rewards. My personal decision is that the rewards out weigh the risks.
PS: Stick around. I am worth getting to know.

Very nice.. I know Obsessed personally and I can assure anyone that he knows what he is doing or I would have been on him long ago with such a cycle. He has made a life decision to be in a top spot as an IFBB pro, and I commend and support his entire decision process. Roll on my friend.

Thank you Arabian, you know you are my bro. Your feedback means alot as does your friendship. You guys truly are helping motivate me towards my goal! And for that I thank each and every one of you.

I don't know you all that well, OWL, but you strike me as an experienced lifter who is aware of the risks but is approaching his goals with as many precautions in place as possible. It might be good for other (younger/less experienced) bros to hear about some of the precautions that you take as you chase the storms ;)

thanks for recognizing this need and posting your concern!

An outstanding response bro. All the bases very well covered and very well thought out.

Hopfully our yournger bros will read and understand this.

Thank you zed. It was a very heartfelt response and exactly what you said is exactly why I posted that. Cutie was dead on the money. I don't want young guys coming on here and thinking this is normal. Lol

Yet another off day:
Trainer has me doing two days off back to back as a result of the volume of training. I have been running tues-sat on my five day. I will be dropping one excersise this week and running tues-fri so that the following week I can get back on a mon-fri split without missing any rest days. This is very difficult for me to get my mind around as I would rather train but after several people I trust giving me the same advice I decided to follow it.

OWL... I honestly don't know how you get through these workouts. I'm shaking like a leaf by the time I finish mine and mine might be half this.

Granted, I'm cutting but I'm kinda jelly. What are you using for a pre-workout?

I use n2kts, when taking a break from d3 I use animal rage.

Interesting... I have to order some supps. Will look into this. I get through my morning cardio ok but could use something before lifting -- seriously having trouble getting all the way through the lifts and they're not that long. Used to be able to finish in under an hour.

Problem is I don't want to add any more cals to the cut. Know anything good? Ok... Sorry to jack your thread. I'm gonna go ahead and shut up now -- feel free to answer in mine. Lol!

Keep killing it, buddy... You're motivating me!!! ;)

Bro I am sorry to hear that I have dealt with lower back issues for a long time myself so I feel your pain. Take is easy that is a part of your body that can put a stop to what you are trying to do real fast!! Heating pads, Hot shower, Tiger Balm and a good massage. (and I am not talking bout the Asian Massage parlor down the street that offer happy endings either LOL) I use all of those with rest to speed up recovery. Try not to let it get you down you have been Kickin ass your body is just telling you to chill for a minute.....

Dam bro sorry your back let you down man.
But I know you will come back just fine after a little bit of rest too.
So take it easy on your day off and enjoy.

+1 ice pack, heat pack.. alternate a few times a day, and a deep tissue massage. Take an epsom salt bath.

I only do deadlifts every other back workout or my lower back locks up like that too. Being tall makes it worse I think.. it's a long range of motion and you gotta keep that lower back straight on rows/DLs.

Take it easy brother.. You're still a monster... I'd love to move that kind of volume. I'm about 1/2 of that. Lol.

A couple days of rest will not derail your training. A more serious injury will. Patience.

Stay active in ways that don't hurt (bike). Ice (probably early for heat). More patience.

Fingers and toes crossed. xo

Why no light abs? Nice job protecting the back. How'd it feel?
The motion of bending at the lower back felt like it was going to cause pain. I was really trying to get my lift in without further injuring myself. I even tried knee ups on the suspended chair and that too caused pressure at the spot where I am experiencing pain. Felt good overall really. Just was being very careful.

Wow. Uck. Ok.

Lol Yeah I am not to thrilled about it myself at this point.

Hang in there, bud...

It took me almost 2 weeks of babying it, but my hamstring finally calmed down. Still not gonna sprint on it until I'm 100% sure it won't bitch at me.

This will pass if you take good care of it.

What a damn week. Monday I will restart training routine with shoulders. All I could do this week is three days. I got in shoulders, back, and chest. I chose not to go to the gym this morning because the back just didn't feel good. However I would rather lose the two days that I have lost this week than a month or two as a result of being stupid. Even though I have just started this log, I have been on this routine for almost 3 months. I think my body is just saying to take a little break so that I can come back with a vengeance on Monday. If back isn't much better after foam rolling and ice/heat by Monday, I will most likely get an MRI just to make sure what is going on. Hoping I won't have to do so if everything goes back to normal. Thanks for following guys, this is going to be a wild ride. One thing you can be sure of is that I will not stop until i get there.

Update: Just talked things over with my trainer and he, like my MD that I talk to, has sidelined my ass until Wednesday. His exact words were "Not even a crunch until your chest workout on Wednesday." I am going to go absolutely insane not being able to hit the gym until then. F*%K!

Heres a tip, when you do leg presses also incorporate Pointing feet inward, then some outward keep at it and you'll see the difference! :) This has been a service announcement!

Going to try this Radar. I do it with calve raises so it would definitely make sense on presses. Thanks for the tip bro!

Feels awesome. Started back last Wednesday. Back was a little tweaky on front delt raises but I just kept it moderate on weight. Much less lethargic with the carb swap and the simple sugar. Starting to see a little add of bloat with creatine but that is probably in my head honestly. Thinking of upping to 10gms actually after a little research while I still have time. Over all feeling great!

What's your timeline owl?? Before the cut starts?

I miss Chopz too! And owl...you are one impressive guy! :)

Middle of May and cut until show in late September. So I am just eating and training like a freaking beast right now. Lol As a matter of fact I am about to throw some Beastdrol on top of all I am running now.

OH YEAH! I forgot to tell you during our phone conversation i know you know how important it is to drink lots of water, but include some cranberry juice into that also!

The life of a bodybuilder-

He wakes at 5:oo am to the sound of the alarm clock piercing through his rest. As he comes to his feet the soreness he feels and the pain from injuries past begin to raise their evil heads. He stumbles to the bathroom to brush his teeth and rinse off the fog caused by the melatonin he had to take to be able to sleep through the night. Now awake, he begins to prepare for battle. Not a battle against others but the battle within himself that lies ahead. Can I add more weight? Can I push an extra rep? What are the other guys doing today that I will meet in competition? Thoughts racing through his head as he is forcing oats down his throat. Pre-training breakfast done. Pre-workout done. Gallon jug in hand he forges through to make the trip to the dungeon where the battle shall commense. Throughout the trip he is playing it over and over in his mind. Seeing it before it even happens. Knowing the pain is coming but loving it nonetheless. Once inside the gym the battle has begun. There is no more time for I can't. No more room for excuses that say I will do this tomorrow. It is his time. His time to decide just how bad he wants it. Do you kill it? Or do you quit? He pushes every rep. He adds weight to every excersize. Sweat rolling off of his brow. Shirt is soaked and the weights really don't care. They are no better or worse as the result of his arrival. But he is. He is stronger. Both physically and mentally. The feeling he has now is the one that draws him back every day. The feeling that once again he has overcome his doubts. Overcome his fears. Overcome everything inside of him that said tomorrow. Now that todays battle has been won, the work does not stop here. What doses are scheduled for today? Is his food prepared? Are all supplements prepared or taken? Is this the easy road for him? No. But the love of the challenge, the love of the sport is what brings him back for more every day. Will there be injury? Yes. Will he quit? Never. Why? Because deep down inside he knows he doesn't want to be average. Deep down inside he has to be one of the 1% that is the elite. Welcome to a day in my life.

I see "that look" coming thru bro. The hard work is paying off man!
