I'm heading to nogales this weekend. I read a post from someone saying that they took his ID and said that they looked to see if he had any outstanding warrants for arrest in the states.

I have 1 outstanding warrant in new mexico, will this give them reason to search me? I doubt that they will even question me or look it up in the database but i'm asking just in case.

Also, will they find it suspicious that I'm using an Iowa id and going into arizona?

I don't think I'd be trying my luck if I had a warrant. They might arrest you and that would certainly involve a search.

The outstate ID doesn't matter...people relocate and travel all the time.

the iowa id wont be suspicious..i see people all the time from other states..if ur a young male coming back having no bought any gifts in nogales then u will get hammered with questions..be careful

I'm pretty srue they can't arrest me. If I have a warrant in new mexico, and I'm in mexico, i don't think they'd give a shit. (by the way, the warrant is for an unpaid speeding ticket, long story )

anyone else know anything/

If they do any secondary questioning (due to PC) then they may run your info thru NCIC (I think NCIC only shows felony warrants-if I recall correctly). NCIC, may or may not show the warrant.
I wouldn't be too concerned about a traffic warrant haunting you at the border. They would have to decide to hold you based on that warrant, contact the issuing authority in NM and NM would have to say, "Yes, please hold the guy until we pick him up." Still the detaining office would make a decision based on their ability and need to hold you (i.e. do they have time, room for you).

Good Luck

Actually, now that I think about it...2 years ago when I was popped crossing (paid a fine and walked) I had an outstanding traffic warrant.
Now, I base my reply on experience and some CJ knowledge.

They won't be checking for bulshit warrants you have in from the U.S. in Mexico.

Agreed, but I am referring to Customs at the border and Border Patrol at the secondary stop, not MX Police.

I'll give you my opinion from a Canadian perspective. First is your warrant for a serious offence?, secondly in Canada warrants are either endorsed or unendorsed. Unendorsed and you are going before a judge. endorsed and the police can release you(most likely something small, failure to attend court, etc...) secondly you must look at the radius. In canada most warrants are only province wide in there radius. However to make a long story short, If you are worried about the warrant, then it is probably not worth the risk, especially not during these times of hightened security. Best of luck bro.
