ok...i had this entire trip planned out to get my gf to florida this coming weekend without her knowing i set it up to propose. Saturday is our 5yr anniversay. I am totally fucked now b/c the person i was going to have help me set it all up is out of the country and i cannot use this plan now.

what are some creative ideas that i could possible use in the boring ass midwest to do something nice/special besides the old plain dinner deal. it is currently cold as hell and snow everywhere :(.

i know it will be hard for many of you, but please try to keep it as serious as possible, i'm in a huge pinch at the moment.
 
MW...can you give me a little something to work with? What state are you in? How much are you willing to spend? Can you tell me a few things you guys love to do together? stuff like that.

Seriously, give us more information you goon...what are things she likes to do, has she ever dropped hints on what her perfect proposal would be like (pretty sure all wimminz have an idea of this in their head)

i'm in central, IL. she's mentioned in the past when one of her friends got engaged at dinner she didn't want that i know. she wants the typical "dream" beach engagement. i say dream, b/c us midwesterns hardly ever get to see a real beach. we both like to do outdoor type things. i was thinking i could possibly take her skiing, but i dunno how i would go about that.

Is there any way you can hold off on the engagement till the other person involved is back in the country?

Bring her up to CO..take her to vail, rent a nice room w/a private hot tub and make it a weekend of skiing and sexy time. Or, just take her skiing, and bring her to my house for the sexy time :)

not really.......she is kinda obsessed with the number 5 (lucky number) so i wanna do it on 5th ann. plus everything has to do with the number five. 5 main diamonds, 5 diamonds down each side of band, 5 karat total...........getting the 5 idea??? lol.

she really has no clue b/c i've told her for a long time i wasn't wanting to get married anytime soon. i even tried to write up a contract with her for having a kid but not getting married, lol (it was a joke, she didn't find funny).

funny u said that, i was thinking of talking to a buddy of mine that owns some rental storage units/garages and thought about getting a truck load of sand, some heaters, and beach furniture. then the more i thought about it the more stupid it sounded, lol

cant you still take her to florida? just do it spontaneous style. tell her to pack her bags, you're taking her on vacation for your anniversary. then when you get there, propose!

i don't think we've ever "celebrated" an anniversary, she would def get ideas in her head if i started now, lol. this may be what happens though
 
Recreating the beach idea is probably your best bet. Go buy some cheesy blow up palm trees, a kiddie blow up pool, decorate a place with tons of tropical flowers, have a carribean themed dinner ready for her, etc, etc.

All she wants is a story to tell her friends to make them jealous anyway and effort goes a long way even if it is cheesy. To women cheesy = romantic. No reason to spend a ton of $$$ because you already did that.

This is what I would do....when you propose, shes gonna say she knew something was up....they always do....hope she says yes...if so Congrats bro!!!

Hey....we must live very close to each other then!!! And you are right...there isnt shit to do around here. the same ol' chicago trip gets old too!
 
Wow.... First of all, damn you poor stupid lil man. And by lil man I mean cut to shreds and by stupid I mean stupid.

All that aside.

2 very big words...... Indoor waterpark. They have indoor beaches within a couple hrs of you. Just pack her bags (try as you will you will forget something) and tell her you need to go somewhere to get a christmas present and she's going with. Lie your ass off to accomplish it and it will be worth it.

And finally.........dumbass!

I think its great that you are putting so much effort into this. She is a very lucky woman! The water park is a good idea as is the indoor beach. A couple of times in college during the winter we would crank up the apartment heat until it felt like the beach and hold a beach party with hula skirts and tropical drinks. It was always a nice break from the winter. Maybe do a tropical scene, propose and then have tickets ready to fly out to Florida to celebrate. Of course, if you haven't book a trip yet I would seriously look into going to St. John's in the Virgin Islands. And you can always check out wedding sites while you are there. My SIL got married there and it was amazing and not nearly as expensive as you would think. Good Luck JCK
