Not necessarily, when matabolic shifts occur in your metabilism you may be burning higher ammounts of cals. I can get away with eating WAY more calories on the atkins diet then with a standard diet that includes carbs, why? Most likely insulin is the major coulprit. Also depending on the type of calories that you injest leads to different stimulating effects on your t3 levels, further shifting your metabolism to perform at different levels of efficinecy. It's all diet diet diet.

And it's never as simple as calories in = calories out, as that is really oversimplifying it.

the moment you dump your carbs, yout t-3 levels plumet

and yes, it is as simple as energy in - energy out; if your metabolic rate upregulates then your energy out term increases, does it not? another fact is, CITRIC ACID CYCLE WORKS BEST ON LOW-MOD CARBS, LOW FATS, HIGH PROTEIN. that is well documented in basic biochemistry

BTW, there is no such thing as ATKINS diet, low carb/high fat diets have been around for a while, just because some shithead came along and put his name on that particular diet plan does not make it his diet, also if you are going to go "atkins" route, might as well go all out KETO

yeah, and you can eat plenty of carbs everyday and as long as you take your ALA you will remain in ketosis too, RIGHT?

what a joke

Well, apparently not. Never did find out why ALA gives a false reaction though.

what do you swim? i did swimming in high school, was pretty good actually, went to states championships, never did persue it in college though

50, 100 free and 100 fly. I'm pretty average for a college swimmer, 20.high, 45.high, and 50.high respectively.

i agree with ya SERGE on this...in my personal experience when trying to lose that shit weight at the end, u need to keep protein high, carbs moderate and fat low...otherwise u just burn off LBM and the fat stays in place...the carbs give fuel to burn other shit besides muscle...that didn't come out as good as i wanted to, and it does sound some what ignorant, but like i said, that has always worked the best for me!!!

Yes energy in does equal energy out in a basic sence, it's the ammound of energy your are going to expand that will change with each diet. That being said there is no "best " diet as all react differently.

PLease explain to me the it is that simple. Please use the 2000 calorie example i set before. you know 2000 calories from sugar vs. 2000 calories from say red meat, for say a person with a metabolism requiring a 2000 cals daily for maintenance. Do you honestly think both diets will produce identical results? I think not. But there are doctors who think it will as there are those the think it will not. So this discussion is a endless circle.

BTW: Doctor Atkins is a shithead that invented the diet and officially presented it and studied it and has been doing it for over 40 years. he really pioneered this decades ago and was mocked by the scientific comunity. Furthermore Atkins diet is a full blown keto diet, not some low carb wanna be. All Keto and ckt diets we have today were derived from his research and that includes the Anabolic diet and the popular BodyOpus diets. Not bad for a shithead.

Atkins did not "invent" the diet. No-carb diets have been studied at least since the early 1900's for the treatment of epileptic children.

There was also some guy in the 1800's who noted that cutting starches and potatoes made him skinny. Or something. I dunno. It's pretty hard to 'invent' something nowadays. Pretty much everything seems to go in and out of vogue.

thats precisely my point, how do you calculate ones maintanace metabolic rate? it will varie day by day based on the activities (hence the energy out term will change). second, blunting insulin responce will most definetly enhance fat burning, but personally i dont know too many people that will be able to maintain this kind of eating for too long, as eating no carbs becomes very very boring and annoying, moreover your basic functionality becomes RETARDED

funny how BodyOpus diet was on the market way before Atkins diet..............shit i woulnder why that is

atkins is a full blown keto? dont think so, all you have to do to verify how right i am, is go to a local pharmacy purchase a glucose monitor that measures ketone levels, use it why running your atkins diet, your ketone levels will read a big fat ZERO

to reach ketosis, one MUST consume 70% of total calories from fat, the rest from protein, zero or trace carbs
