Not necessarily, when matabolic shifts occur in your metabilism you may be burning higher ammounts of cals. I can get away with eating WAY more calories on the atkins diet then with a standard diet that includes carbs, why? Most likely insulin is the major coulprit. Also depending on the type of calories that you injest leads to different stimulating effects on your t3 levels, further shifting your metabolism to perform at different levels of efficinecy. It's all diet diet diet.
And it's never as simple as calories in = calories out, as that is really oversimplifying it.
the moment you dump your carbs, yout t-3 levels plumet
and yes, it is as simple as energy in - energy out; if your metabolic rate upregulates then your energy out term increases, does it not? another fact is, CITRIC ACID CYCLE WORKS BEST ON LOW-MOD CARBS, LOW FATS, HIGH PROTEIN. that is well documented in basic biochemistry
BTW, there is no such thing as ATKINS diet, low carb/high fat diets have been around for a while, just because some shithead came along and put his name on that particular diet plan does not make it his diet, also if you are going to go "atkins" route, might as well go all out KETO
