Wow, that's a tough situation. One the one hand you have to be glad he's willing to be honest with you, but blabbing it unsolicited is isn't the way to do it.

No his timing sucked asshole. Should've picked a different time and prefaced his comment a lot more tactfully. I do agree though it's best to be honest rather than become increasingly turned off and end up leaving or cheating.

If it's gotten to the point that he said something, it's probably more than just a 'little' soft. I'm guessing he was using tact by saying 'a little soft' instead of blurting out "Goddamn, your ass is getting FAT!!!". Cut out the bad carbs and start doing cheek clenches if you're not well enough to work out hard...something is better than nothing.
