Morons at the gym (the official thread)...

I got one. This guy was doing the typical bullshit about yelling at bodybuilders for steroids. He asked what I was on and I said creatine. He goes on a rant about how its a steroid. I say he's crazy and he says he'll prove it from an internet article he read. He shows me the article and it says "Creatine helps build muscle" He says "There. It builds muscle so its a steroid" what a fucking idiot

I've got one from yesterday. These two guys were in there doing 100 rep sets on the Hammer Strength chest press with no weight to 10 lbs per side. I don't guess this alone makes them morons, but the entire set the partner kept yelling, "Come on! Come on! YEEEAAAHH!! Good job!" I was like LOL. To make it worse, the Hamer Strenght stuff is right across from the bench presses, where I was doing seated military press. They kept staring at me the entire time like I was doing some sort of alien workout.
 
To be fair, I bet over half of you were the very morons you're complaining about. Everyone was a beginner once.

LOL got damn yo what a post 151 pages...wow you guys are serious about this one...Anyone seen the GYMRAT video's on you tube? They are about how you do not want to be this guy...(at the gym) there is lie 6 episodes and when you watch them you will roll cause every gym has at least one of these guys and my gym has like 15 to 20...Its hillarious, if I can find the link I'll come back edit and post it...It is some funny shit, My brother is one of those guys and he just fucking kills me from time to time when we go...I am imbarresed to be there with him he is so fucking full of himself and thinks he know everything but in reality he dont know shit...He makes what would be a hour and a half workout take 2and a hlf hours...If he was'nt my brother I would probably kick his ass he is that retarded sometimes and I am just waiting for someone at the gym to crack his ass...I aint going to do shit either, He is just in need of an ass whipping...Dont get me wrong I love my brother but when your to big for your own britches its reality check time and he def, needs it...

He looked f*kin disguisting, and a portable dvd player in his hand, watching a film at the gym!!! (LIKE WTF! DO U COME HERE TO WORK OUT OR WATCH A FILM?!) Then he sat on the chest machine, for about 10 minutes, watching a film (I managed to complete 2 different exercises in that time, before he started his first set!) Then when he actualy started doing something, he racked up the weight on almost heaviest weight, did 4 sets (i counted) his form was so POOR. its like he hardly worked his chest at all! then after completing his reps guess what he did? Went back to watching a film for 15 minutes!!! i managed to complete my workout in that time (shoulders that day) before he managed to do 4 sets for chest machine! I hate people like that. Wtf is the point to waste at the gym!?
 
I had always read stories like these before and got a could laugh out of them but had never actually seen anything really funny since my old gym was for more hard-core lifters (I was by far the weakest of anyone there which was great for learning quickly). My new gym - the Y - hasn't been too bad until the college kids started getting out for vacation a couple of weeks before Christmas (no personal offense to any college kids reading this right now)...

The best one was this college kid who was pretty big and was hitting bech several Mondays back. He looked like he could move some weight and was pretty intense but the funny thing was that he was not shy about checking himself out in the mirror before, during and after his lifts - he'd flex in front of the mirror before he'd get down, poke his head up when he had the weight at the top of the lift and then get back in front of the mirror directly after to see what "direct effects" his last set just had. To top it off, after he was done with his bench set he took one final look in the mirror and then proceeded to SHADOW BOX for a good 10 seconds followed by more flexing. And for a final demonstration of his raw power, he performed 2 karate kicks which were actually impressive because he appeared to have good form and managed not to kick anything or anyone over because it's so friggin tight in the weight area.

One of the truly funny things I'd seen that week.

was doing some arm wrestling at school today and one kid who had bigger arms than everyone else (except me) was showin his biceps off and some other guy goes "what do you do for arms?" and the other dude says "nothing idk why they are so big" and so the first guy says back "do you just tense them alot? Thats what I used to do to get my arms bigger..."

only real funny thing ive seen in my gym that i havnt done are the 500000 lb bench dudes with calfs the size of a pencil.

and for me, i was doin 135 on bench and got stuck on my 5th rep(this was near the beginning of discoverin weightlifting) so i was resting the weight on my chest wonderin what to do, guy passes and i ask for help, he pulls the weight up with one arm and goes about his business. I was quite ashamed, but eh, we cant all bench 225 the first time we workout.
 
Well today I walk in to see 4 guys my age with their shirts off on some green stretching pads pumping out a p-90x workout that was playing on a portable dvd player. They were all grunting and moaning about how fucking hard their shit was. It was an abs workout jesus. They were like right next to each other with their shirts off all sweaty grunting away, must have all caught the gheys

Ahh so naive. But in all honesty can you really blame them. I mean, this seems stupid to us because have all done a good amount of research of lifting and stuff to realize that is complete horesht. But the average man knows jack about lifting, I could totally see why one would think being extremely veiny can give off the impression that roids are being used. Yeah its naive, but a decent amount of the "morons" brought up on this thread do moronic things simply because they honestly believe that what they are doing is right because no one has told them otherwise.

Enough of this though, this thread is awesome keep 'em coming.. I'm such a buzzkill.

Every time i do cable pullthroughs, i get at least a few weird looks because of how perverted the exercise looks. One day, i was doing pullthroughs while the swim team was working out going about their shit. After one of my sets (this was after heavy deads so i was wiped), this kid stared at me, looked at his girlfriend, and started copying me, but without any weights. Then, he laughed his ass off and gave me some nasty look. On my way back from getting a drink, I mustered up enough energy to go over to him and say, "Hey dude. That exercise really helps on the thrust. You should ask your mom". Dude was speechless and ever since that moment, he has litteraly avoided going near me @ the gym.

I was at my regular gym yesterday, i was in the squat rack about to do my last set which was 130kg x 3. Anyway i knew that because i hadn't really been doing barbell squats for a while it would take a big effort to get all 3 reps (used to be at 165 x 5 ass to the floor). Especially considering i had been sprinting and doing leg plyos the day before. So anyway i thought i will give it 4 to 5 minutes before trying this, as science tells us this is roughly the amount of time it takes to get enough recovery to perform near your max (in my situation) about 3 minutes in i see 3 guys who are regulars and all know each other. age range 38-45, i notice them laughing to each other that I'm taking "so long" to do a measly 130kg which is my guess what they where laughing at. Bearing in mind 1 of them is on the leg machine, another is on the smith machine. And the other is stood around trying to look hard. Anyway i look at my watch and its just gone past 4 mins so i start my squats, i only manage 2 reps which took me a bit by surprise, as i did 5 reps on Monday, but maybe this was because of running ect the day before, and the 10 mins i spent on the heavy bag before starting squats. Anyway they are giggling to themselves, then 1 of them asks if i finished, i say 1 more set. I do 80kg for 8 reps as kind of a back off, and tell the guy it's all his. He starts with 100kg, no warm up, for a couple sets of half ass squats, with bad form, knees buckling inward and basically doing a half good morning on every rep, he's also using the pussy pad with a towel over the top. He then puts on 140 and his friends look at me and then look at the bar as if to say something, then the guy proceeds to do about 3 sets, 5 reps a set, of 1/4 of the way down squats again with very bad form.
It's actually quite sad how these bad asses where laughing at me when in fact the joke was on them.

How about morons in the gym parking lot changing their shirts and making poses in front of my wife, with me standing right there? Teenage punks. Same ones who park new convertible BMWs slanted to take up 2 spaces so nobody will (accidentally) ding their paint. Gold's Gym Simi Valley, CA. I don't go there, but it's in a business center with other places we go a lot.

Just to let you all know, I was the moron in this situation but its priceless and I have to share it.

So there was this big dude in the gym doing his incline bench while I was just finishing up on my floor press. It was late in my workout and I was sweating profusely, like I had to go over to the paper towels between every set to wipe my face off. This guy comes over to me between one of my sets and asks me for a spot and I said sure. So I stand on the spotting platform behind the bench and give him his liftoff, my face looming over his. Probably 3 drops of sweat come off my forehead and land right in his eyes, he didnt say anything but just kind of blinked, he was more focused on the heavy weight. So one he starts struggling I get over the bar again and more of my sweat landed in his eyes, I kept as straight of a face as possible as he slowly pushed his last rep up without a problem whilst my sweat landed directly on his face. As soon as he racks it I apologize mutiple times but he kind of just gets up and storms off. I felt like a complete Ahole but there was'nt much I could do, despite this I thought it was hilarious.

no joke man maybe a year ago i remember reading here that a guy said when he was benchign and asked a random guy to spot for him, the random spotter's sweat landed right in the guy benching's eye :eek2:
 
i saw a little mexican dude with 5 plates on the bar squatting. dude was like bouncing up and down. about 2 inches of travel. i was waiting for his knees to give out. hilarious sight
 
I just want to thank you all for supplying me with a full days worth of hilarious reading material in this thread.......I have been going to gyms since I was 16, and I thought I have seen it all, but apparently I am missing a LOT of ass-hattery that is still out there! :)
 
2 morons today in the gym today...

firstly they did smith machine incline press... with the squat pussy pad on the bar

then they did smith machine squats with a 5lb plate on each side going about a quarter of the way down. Then they replaced the 5lb plates with 10lb plates and did another set then walked off... seriously

Saw the worst squat today at the gym. I usually see a lot of dumb shit going on around here because I go to all the neighborhood gyms. I rotate around between different 24hour fitnesses because some gyms have good power racks, other have good deadlifting bars/platforms. Others have back raise stations and dip stations. Anyways I saw the worst today.

This really scrawny guy was doing the worst 1/16 squats I've ever seen. They weren't even quarter, weren't even 1/8. They seriously were 1/16 the movement. He wasn't really squatting anything. He just sort of bent his knees about an inch then made his knee straight again. It looked dangerous because his body was shaking the whole time. And obviously, he's really scrawny. I think he was there to just show off the 275 he had on his back because he did 3 sets then left.

doubtful....but it could be he was trying to adjust his body to heavy weights....you know squat lockouts. I always want to try those but I just KNOW everyone in the gym will be looking at me like "you stupid motherfucker!" lol

Theres some creepy old guy at my gym who doesn't really lift weights. He sits on the machine incline press machine and crosses his legs and just stares. He literally sits there for a whole hour just staring with his legs crossed...

What I don't get is, is this really the place to cut corners and be lazy? Because that's exactly what it is. I started a thread similar to this one before I knew it existed about lazy people at the gym. It's like having an escalator instead of stairs to come in. Or those people that fight for front row parking at the gym. Really? WTF?

Pisses me off when guys leave little shit on stuff. Like the leg press they will leave 25,10. Or the squat rack bar will have 10's on it. Pisses me off when i have to clean peoples shit up. Doesn't make sense why guys are lazy asshats at a gym. I do the same thing, and call peope out if I know they were using it.

OH then the other day there is this old guy at our gym who thinks he is king shit. Every time I am at the gym he is there also. Well he will super set 3-4 different workouts, but take forever to get back to stuff. He held up the preacher curl for over 20 minutes.

Hey if you don't see "that guy" at your gym. That means you are that guy. It's like the fish at the poker table. If you can't spot him, you are "him".
 
That reminds me of the invention I was thinking about while watching this moron do these 1/2 motion superset curls on the squat rack. Why not make an actual thing called a curl rack? It would be 2 poles sticking up to about thigh level with some braces to hold the bar for them. Of course it would bea huge waste fo space but I bet the body builder morons would buy them up like mad, especially if you geve it some stupid name like the super duper bicept rack.

He was prolly doin 21's.. Those are pretty good for biceps actually. Just sayin

I moved to a real redneck town from the city to expand my horizons. What a huge mistake that turned out to be. Anyway, we just got a brand new gym much closer to home and I'm just stunned at how all the necks seem to be clones of one another. They're all obsessed with looking at themselves in the mirrors. Hey dickfuck, you wanna know what you look like? You look exactly the same way you looked less than 5 seconds ago, which was the last time you checked. It seems like they cant be pulled away from staring at themselves long enough to do a set of anything. Fatasses. Imaginary lat syndrome....you think you've seen it? You haven't seen shit. It also seems that everyone just trains chest.......over.....and over.......and over. Douche bags. It's just like high school, only without any hot chicks to have sex with. I try to look on the bright side.....SQUAT RACK IS ALWAYS OPEN!! I know for a fact that I'm the only guy who trains legs. I must be some kind of mad scientist. It's a very fearful community. As the only serious lifter, I am stared at as if I were eating babies. I'll bet that if I told somebody here that I actually was eating babies, they'd be, like "I knew it!". 100% dipshits. come on guys so if you workout in LA or NYC you are telling me there aren't trashy people there too?

i think its important not to be so fast to judge people.. there used to be this R**NECK at my gym with this huge gut that looked like he had some kind of nerve disorder and I would avoid him like the plague. well one day he needed a spot so i helped him out and it turned out he was a nice guy (albeit weird), he also would spot me as well. now we are good friends at the gym and we depend and trust each other spotting. he is one of the few guys i would ever trust to spot me and i've got his back too.

so don't let first impressions dictate how you feel about other people. i'm sure when you've started a new job someone rubbed you the wrong way or you thought "man this guy is an idiot" and then a few months later that person becomes a good friend. it seems to always happen with me.

For sure. There is an alpha douche that trains at the rec center on campus...I know his ex, she told me he juices. He has big-ish arms but no definition in them...lovehandles...and no legs. My forearms are probably bigger than his calves lolol. Being a trainer myself, I watch and critique him and the way he trains his clients...WRONG WRONG WRONG. he trained the same few overweight women all semester and NONE have changed in the slightest. All he does is check himself out in the mirror the whole time. What he's checking out, no clue. But yes...he's what I call...an alpha douche.
 
4 guys sharing a bench all doing curls. Or similarly, 4 guys using two benches to face each other in a little social circle while...You guessed it - doing curls.
 
I moved to a real redneck town from the city to expand my horizons. What a huge mistake that turned out to be. Anyway, we just got a brand new gym much closer to home and I'm just stunned at how all the necks seem to be clones of one another. They're all obsessed with looking at themselves in the mirrors. Hey dickfuck, you wanna know what you look like? You look exactly the same way you looked less than 5 seconds ago, which was the last time you checked. I havnt been able to train for over 8 mos due to shoulder issues that are finally being addressed (yay). I decided its time to stop being a fat fuck and at least get back to cardio and drop some lard off my ass. So I go back to my gym 8+ mos. later and see a ton of the same faces. Same "stick my chest out" guys with the same poor form not one of them has changed their physical appearance AT ALL!!! Same fat ladies going 1.5 mph on the eliptical(sp)that look exactly the same and havn't dropped even a half a pound. Pssst....hey tubby....you cant do walking speed no impact cardio then go home and eat an entire box of ho ho's and lose weight.
Have I changed in 8 mos.? Yep...I got fat. I also lost 11 lbs in my first 14 days back. I have just spent 5 days of hell moving to a new house eating pizza every day out of convenience and will be back at it in a day or 2.
Bless these worthless pathetic turd piles because...well....they keep the gym in business for the 3 or 4 people that are actually serious aboutn what they go there for.

Theres an old Hercules gym about 35 miles from me that I would love to go to when I can train again. Dungeon style gym with old school equipment and some functional new stuff. Chalk is allowed!! Full of power lifters and meat heads. But its a bit out of the way for now.

This dudes so geigh for the Abercrombie. The shits made for anorexic high school guys. I tried on a double xxl one time and it was tighter than an under armour compression shirt. They do this on purpose. To make small dudes feel larger than they really are. Popped collars etc, nah man. I'll stick with Lacoste at least their shit fits men.
 
Story #2, I was asked to spot this guy on the smith machine doing decline bench (the gym doesn't have a decline bench so a lot of the guys use the smith machine). It was loaded up with way more then this roid head could ever dream of lifting. He literally move the bear up and down like 3", I was like WTF is this guy doing. I stood there trying not to laugh and only helped him get the bar back to the top for the last "rep". He gets up and says "man, that sucked, I usually do more".

some guys only move the bar a few inches to work their way up to the big weight they want and getting spotted even if you are getting spotted for alot of reps build strength faster (depending on how much the spotter is taking)
 
^yea, then what happens one day that the weight they are using goes out of that tiny little range of motion they are used to... tear...
and why a spot on the smith? it stops with a twist of the wrist...

ive had a guy recently ask me for a spot with some incline dumbell presses... got like 3-4 inch range of motion, nowhere near hitting his chest... said the same damn thing... 'blah blah bloo, last week i did more', lol more of what?!
 
I just got back from the gym and there was a guy doing weighted calf raises with a box on the smith machine. He started off just using the bar but as soon as a attractive female walk in he hurried to put 45s and 25s on the bar (I was directly behind him doing Arnold press so I saw everything unfold)
As he began to do his first rep the box flew up and hit him right in the gut. needless to say I was laughing my ass off.
 
Nothing pisses me off more than the dudes that stack the leg press machine full of plates, and do 4" "presses". Some of the most dope crap I've seen I swear.

Leaving the gym now and saw a 300 pound personal trainer all fat.

no better, i have a female trainer at my gym that is just skinny... and its funny because other women think she's going to be able to help them lose weight, but she's always been skinny and had some type of eating disorder... no knowlege of training at all... i feel bad for the truly out of shape people that try hard but dont get anywhere because of bullshit training and dieting instruction...
 
personal trainers are mostly just sales people. especially at those big box gyms. its not hard to become a pesonal trainer and you can make money if you know how to get sales if you don't give results. don't you all agree with that?

I'm sure there are a few legit trainers out there and on here, but most just want the sale and couldn't care less
 
I personally can't stand when a fat out of shape Guy puts a tank top reverse so his gyno looking nipples and tits are hanging out while he's doing the bicep jig. Lmao makes me throw up in my mouth a little everytime
 
What pisses me off the most is they guys who throw the weights around...Its always some egotistical jackass who thinks slammin 50 lb DB's to get everyones attention will mkae him look like a badass...Instead it makes us al look at him and think what a tool he is. OH and his legs are thge size of twigs! he trains chest almost everyday...Another thing that drives me mad is the idiots who walk around acting like trainers and they dont have a fucking clue how to properly train! Or everybody knows these idiots...the guys who are like ^ feet tall weighing 190 lbs and walk like they cant keep their arms down because there extremely small lats are just to swole!! fuckin histerical when i see those dudes.

Okay.... did my last set of Shrugs.... turned around to see 2 workers trying to move the pully machine for chest presses... they hadthe light half of it on a pallet jack. I put my water and hooks down to help. Try to leverage it so one guy can push the pallet jack more under it.......i pushed and lifted it a little.... And OUCH... my right trap got strained... WTF... Who has two thumbs and tried to use his Worn out Traps to lift a machine?<-----THIS GUY
 
Ok I got one, this happened yesterday. I walk into the gym and head straight for the locker room to piss. In front of me is this dude, probably 5'7, 140lbs, with what seemed to be a 20lbs bag of Optimum Serious Mass in his hand. The damn bag was bigger than he was.

So I go take my piss, head to the sink to wash up, and what do I see? Same dude, his bag of Serious Mass, and a blender. That's right.. A full blown, plug into the wall, freaking blender.

He proceeds to whip up a shaker cup full of this mess, before heading out to lift. Come on bro, the whole bag and blender?

i love it... if and when i use the leg sled, i usually start off with about 5 or 6 plates per side for my warmup... its pretty funny to see the look on the bigger guys face when i catch him starting to pull plates off when he's done, and i ask him to leave them on so i can warmup...
ive come to the conclution that most of my generation, and even more and more of the younger ones are just getting lazier and lazier... not just in the gym, as i think people are so affraid to feel a little pain (and i dont mean the injury type) they never will reach their full potential... this applies to the outside world as well, work, as well as even what they do for recreation....
ive made a moron of myself a few times, but at least ive got up on my own and worked harder to overcome my shortcomings... doing box jumps 17 steps high and eating shit, picking them up and then making it a few times... and my classic move, the failed bench press that i roll down a bit and sit up with...

this has got to be one of my favorite threads on here though... whats funniest, is most of the stupid shit i see in the gym is either done by trainers or learned from them...
i swear there must be a shortage of chalk and hate in this world...
 
Three weeks ago I'm finishing up my workout on the pulleys. In my direction I can see the one of the two squat racks in the gym. Two guys were squatting. Well what they thought were squats.

So I notice they both have knee wraps and are get g psyched for their session. First guy goes, he has a decent build on him and next to his buddy pretty much looks like Fabio without the hair. He has 315 on the rack and gets under it gets it loose from the rack and his buddy spits him. He literally goes down about 4.5 - 6 inches. His buddy and him give each other high fives after his set. So the other guy is up. He gets under it, removes it from rack and his legs shake like he is being electrocuted before he can get one he has to stop and re rack it.

They both take what I'm assuming was a piss together in the locker room and finally come out. The bugger of the two puts two more Caddy's on. So he went 315 to 405? Easy step and he does the exact same reps, shitty depth and everything. They both proceed to high five again. What a fucking joke. Do people really think this will make them stronger? I just don't get it bit it's worth a laugh. Thank god for headphones so I didn't have to hear what I am certain was a moronic conversation.
 
Last night I was doing lat pulldowns after deadlifting, and the piece I was using is part of a universal connected to a bunch of different cable attachments.

Personal trainer, kinda chubby, arms bigger than his legs. Was working with some skinny little guy...

"Okay, bicep day! Cable curls! 8-10 reps, 7 sets!"

So he had his client do seven sets of cable curls with about 30 lbs on the rack...while he was doing them himself with about 60 lbs and lots of body english.

He was wearing a bodybuilding.com t-shirt.

I have no faith in humanity.

theres a little skinny older guy at golds who goes to the smith machine, puts on about 275-300 pounds, gets under the bar and puts his whole body in the air, resting on his traps, like hes upside down. strangest thing i ever saw, then he does a rep or 2 and almost kills himself every time, then he takes his knee to push the bar off of him before it crushes him. then sometimes he goes to the chest press machine, puts 4 plates on each side and tries to get 1 rep while doing the same strange shit putting his whole body forward and not sitting on it. the only other thing ive ever seen him do is stretches
 
another one is the guy that goes there with his girl and lifts the exact same weights. must be 6'3, benches 95 pounds, squats less than 135. idk why he does this

ive seen TRAINERS at my gym do that shit... at a Gold's at that... this one trainer is really starting to piss me off actually...
i was talking with the head sales guy (more on him later) who knows how to train right... well he was asking me about the program i was doing for squats, i was in the second phase on smolov at the time... i was telling him my weights planned for the next day, which was somthing like 10 sets of 3's with 365+... well, the deuch trainer walks in, who ive never seen squat before, and says 'oh, i could probably do that...'
next week or so i see the dip with 315 on the bar struggling, not even near making parallel lol...
anyways, that sales rep buddy of mine and that trainer got into it about a month after that... unfortunately the fired my buddy, and then later on the trainer was promoted to head trainer... he also lives with the general manager... what a crock of shit, eh?....
