Married men taking the wife's last name

the name thing was an old tradition to show ownership... women became property of their husbands.

There is no need for it now, except when you have kids you could make the argument that it is nice for everyone to have the same last name.

I know you white peeps use the wife's maiden name as the first son's middle name. What's the story behind that? Davis Foust Dial_tone would be kinda geigh. It sounds like the name of a fat kid.

Just have the old "double name" Like Jennifer Hottness Tone.

My wife was a little disappointed in leaving her last name behind. She old fashioned though so she didn't care that much. Her name used to flow so nice though, and now it doesn't. As a reference, I once had a teacher in college named Senora Denora Cortez-Valez. It would be similar if her name was changed to Senora Denora Johnson. It just doesn't flow.

Do not submit to any of this crazy shite! You will regret it in 6 years when you are divorced and fighting about you're kids last name. It may not mean much to you now, but it will later.
Trust me!!!@#(*U@#%@%#()!!!!

Forsooth and verily, cultures specific to the region within the United States of America known commonly as New England do follow such a tradition. The portents of which are to sustain some connection to the matriarch's descendants.

In the case of multiple progeny, it is common for those of caucasian descent to borrow a page from the african-americans and give the following male progeny names that liken the memories of famous presidents, i.e. Kennedy, Lincoln, Jefferson.

That's very popular in the south amongst old money too.

You take the last name if you are the woman. So, if you are the woman in the relationship, gender or not, then sure. :)
