Looking for honest critique and help...

I have been lurking the boards for a while. I have made it a goal to get back in shape for 2005. Not only for myself but for my 3.5 year old daughter. I want to make sure that I am around long enough to enjoy watching her grow up. Here are a few pics. I will post all stats and dieting later tonight.

I am just wondering with hard work and dedication what is possible for me to attain? Do I have the genetics for putting on some muscle? Forgive me for being ignorant, but I am learning as I go. I believe that posting here will help me tremendously in acheiving my goals.

Thanks !!

hard work and determination can make up for what you lack in genetics

legs look like they have potential. it takes time and effort man, genetics is a terrible excuse in my book. you could ALWAYS look better than you do now

Legs have some size for just starting out. Hard work, heavy weights, and good food eaten 6 times a day, should make a big difference.

Dude, you could look bad in 6-8 months by busting some ass. You're barely out of shape and you have something to work with as far as your frame goes. Get moving.

Legs are definitely lookin good -- just stick w/ the plan & you'll be a very happy EF'er in 6-8 weeks!

OK, here are the pics for the non-plats:

Let me know what you think. Posting all stats in a few.

not bad at all bro. you have a good base to start with. Some sound eating habits, cardio, and training routine and you'll see results in no time. Keep in mind though, this is a game for the patient, which is one of the biggest challenges for both of us. Rome wasn't built in a day. good luck and keep us updated.

Not bad at all especially starting with those legs, you just need a shave in the worst way. Do some higher reps for your upper body with some good amounts of cardio and dieting and you'll be on your way.

off topic, but - dude doesn't need a shave. MEN ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE HAIR ON THEIR BODIES. Unless the dude is competing, there is no need to shave. doesn't look like he has back hair.

Devastation, thanks. I am really worried about the upper body. Hopefully I can develop like legs seem to be coming along.

hrt39, Should 3 of those meals be protein shakes?

habitualhealth, thank you sweetie. You too keep up the good work. Can't wait to see results. Who knows maybe we will see each other in Bora Bora...LOL

toxicsambo, 6-8 months, and idea of what gain may be? Only problem is muscualr endurance sucks a$$ right now. Trying to work that out.

mad monkey59, thanks, i will keep posting !!

sassy69, thank you. I am hanging in there. I am really motivated to see results !!

KillahBee, doing weight traning in the AM, and cardio in the PM. I really want to loose the handles. Can I do too much cardio?

icobu, thanks. the more i shave the more keeps coming back...LOL I plan on shaving when I get my a$$ in shape to show off the hard work..LOL

I would say switch the cardio and training if you can. Cardio in the AM on an empty stomach is better for weight loss. I wouldn't be too concerned with too much cardio. Just listen to your body - don't push yourself to the point of harm. I am cutting right now and am doing cardio 5-6 times a week in the AM on an empty stomach.

Ok, here are the stats as of 2-21-05 (start date)

Weight 185.8
Bodyfat 18.9/12.8

---Current--------------------------GOALS
Neck 15-1/2
Chest 42-1/4 -----------------------44-46
Lt arm (flex) 12 (13-3/4)-----------(16)flex
Rt arm (flex) 12-1/2 (14)-----------(16)flex
Abs 36-3/4 -------------------------32-34
Lt leg 23-1/2
Rt leg 23-1/4
Lt calf 16
Rt calf 16

I train from 7-8am (weights) and cardio at 630-730pm.
I am not really 100% sure how many cals I should be consuming. I want to loose the fat (see my abs) and of course gain some muscle. I don't want to be counter productive in doing too much cardio, if that made any sense.

I will list supps and diet later tonight. Thanks all for the feedback, it really helps and keeps me going.

:newbie:

KillahBee, I have to lift in the AM and cardio in the PM. I have to do it this way for atleast 3 months. It's the way that my schedule is right now. Does that mean that I have to do a little extra cardio to burn off some extra fat?

not necessarily, the idea behind cardio in the morning on an empty stomach is that you will burn primarily fat BUT what it really comes down to is:

if calories spent > calories taken in

you will lose weight. Just make sure to eat the right kinds of foods so that you can keep as much muscle as possible.

hard to tell your waistline by your pic but cutting your love handles would make all the difference the world on your physique. some extra muscle may make burning fat easier.

best way to burn calories is get involved in a sport that you LIKE (basketball, bikeriding, tennis, racquetball, surfing ) so cardio is not a dreaded chore like a stationary bike or eliptical machine. can either of these POSSIBLY be fun?

damn good advice, karma to you glenn

Great foundation!

What's your height and weight?

What's your bicep size, flexed?

Have you give any thought to doing a CKD diet?

Neo22: Thanks, my legs seem to be way ahead of everything else.

area5150: I am 5'11, 185 ibs, both arms are 16's flexed. What is a CKD diet?

I am trying to stay around a slightly below 2000 cals a day. Cardio has been avoiding me like the plauge. I have to get on it.

Thanks for all the comments guys, it helps a ton !!!

Well, before I say "google it," I'll say this: it's like an Atkins diet only radically modifed for an athlete. You eat a high-fat, high protein, low carb diet for 5 days a week, and then for about for 1.5 days at the end of the week you do a high carb feeding. Now, that was a bad overview. I'll PM you a link to a killer CKD website to atone for it, with my pleasure.

Myself, I'm about 5-7 lbs. overweight, most of it (nine-tenths of it)is in the gut and love-handle area. A CKD is perfect for someone like me, I think. It even works for people that have alot more weight to lose than I do.

I once did a diet that took off those 5-7 lbs real fast. It was based on the Body for Life diet. Moderate protein, low fat, moderate to low carbs, and low calories. The notches in my belt dropped fast. The bad thing about that diet was the calories were too low, as was the fat. Bad for me, anyway.

This time around, I'm gonna try the CKD which allows for way more fat, and calories too, I think. I still need to do more research on it.

Although you'll definitely need to put in a shitload of work into sculpting that body of yours I can ensure you that you have much more to work with than I ever dreamed of.

looking really good you've got some mass under there for sure. Try to get the calorie in and calorie out in check and you'll be well on your way in only 6-7 months. You've got plenty of forearm and calf potential so your genetics aren't bad at all

Get to work and in 6 months you'll look alot better

u have good legs.. but need to work hard on ur upper body..

about the genetic stuff.. only u can notice that while training.. how fast and not fat u grow...

but u look ok.. just need some workout..

and i have to say again. good legs... xD

Your not far off at all. The fat you are hanging on to is in area's typical for men. I used the book Sugarbusters to dial in my diet. I dropped 53lbs. You can read it on your lunch break. It will change your life.
You already have a nice foundation. Once you get the diet down you bf will start to drop.
Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the comp. I will be sure to look for that book.

Muscular endurnace is F#$king with me. The strength still has a looooong way to go. I can get to the gym pumped up and then I am wasted after my 2nd set....it's brutal.

(side note) - I am 27 and have only been to the gym maybe 30 times before I decided to really workout. I have alot to learn any advice is ALWAYS welcomed.

OK, these pics are bad. As stated before I started working out on Feb 21, 2005. Not really sure if you can see a major difference or not. Any comments are welcomed.... (go easy ... :worried: )

don't worry about that bro it will get better over time just remember patience patience patience and you will progress faster then you think.. diet and cardio are far more important then weight training if you are trying to lose weight

Definitely see some improvement. There is more definition in the shoulders, arms and legs. I don't know if it because you've put on muscle or if it is a loss in BF but definitely a change for the better.

Do yourself a favor and don't look at the scale on a daily basis. Use measurements to guide your progress.

Hopefully what you will see is an increase in Arm, Chest, Leg measurements and a decrease in waist. Take these every 2 weeks, and forget the scale.
