Lifting and cardio

I'm doing a decent amount of heavy training right now (chest/tris/shoulders one day, bis/back the next) about 4 days a week.

I'm on creatine and taking in alot of protein, but I still have a little bit of a gut left over from last semester's extensive beer drinking haha.

Is it ok to do cardio about 3 times a week, or will it seriously inhibit muscle gains?

You'll just have to eat more calories to make up for what you burn off. What type of cardio? HIIT works best, jog for a min, sprint 15 sec, jog, sprint, etc. I don't think 3 times a week will hurt you that much, might take a week or 2 to get the conditioning up, but its probably good for you!

yeah it probably is. my BMI is pretty low, I just want to get rid of it

I guess my real question is, is it possible to lose fat and gain muscle in the same training period?

Yes, but it is difficult and not very realistic for someone w/average genetics w/o anabolics. Most people should concentrate on either cutting or gaining muscle. Not both.
