knee pain

thriller

New member
well iv been resting alot lately and not training. but i started squating just to get my form back last night with no weight i was trying new forms.

and my knee has been bothering me when ever i jump or doing squats. i htought it would be gone after this rest but its still there.
it hurts on the outside and top of my left knee.
and it looks like the tibia is like kinda over laps the outside of my left knee, its weird.

any comments. ill see if i can take a pic of my knees to show. but i would liek to see what ppl think.

anything would be good
thanks

Just tendons getting sore, rest and super-compenstation will take care of that. You ahve what you call Jumper's knees. resting is not the answer, you need to keep moving the joint -active recovery

also probbaly a quad muscle strength imbalance.
Doing peterson setups to target the teardrop (VMO) quad will fix this. STand on a box that comes up to about mid calf height, one leg on box feet angled out 45 degrees, extend up, hold the top position for 2 secs contract the VMO and lower down, add dumbells as you get stronger do 2-3x10 after your leg workout is all that is needed

Doing hypers with hips off the edge of the pad helps a lot I've found as well, since it puts a static type of stress on the hams.

tendons are just like muscles they get bigger and stronger, they also break down when overused. if your ACL is done, then that's bad. I know of a few guys who blew their ACLs landing from dunks. One reason why I like to build up strnegth before I do depth jumps ;)

Peterson stepup
stand sideways onto a box that is halfway up the calf in height, put one leg on the box with the feet angled out 45 degrees, press yourself up with the leg on the box, leave the other feet in mid air hold for 2 secs and lower. THis exercise strengthens the VMO - the teardrop shaped quad muscle. If this msucle is weak the patella does not track properly. You get pain. very common problem actually, and inactivity makes this muscle lose strnegth even faster.

Full squats can also pretty much cure knee problems as well. Some knee pains can be due to weak hamstring. Basicly it boils down to muscle imbalances - all these muscles around the knee joint pull/act on the kneecap or provide stability, if one is weak then you get uneven pull.

I have posted this before, so sorry if anyone is getting tired of hearing it, but i also had pain in my knees. My doctor told me that it was from a build up of scar tissue in my quad. Due to the scar tissue, my quad could not length as much, so when i flexed my knee, my quad wouldn't coopperate and pulled my patella [knee cap] very tightly against my knee cap. I also a had a lot of tightness in my vastus lateralus and my illiotibial tract which simultaneously pulled my knee cap off to the side as well. This cause a lot of pain "on" and around my knee cap when ever i tried to bend my knee and support weight.

My doc used a method known as Active Release Techniques [ART] which uses some painful methods to break up the scar tissue. They are very painful, but super effective in breaking up scar tissue - i actually hurt some stuff POPPING in my muscle. It was a nasty sound, but it made everything feel a lot better.

I am not saying that this is what you have, but you might want to run it by your doc. I was told that it would heal on its own, but it would take a super super long time for the pain to go away, because the scar tissue is hard to break up.

Hope this helps.
