I'm surprised nobody has given props to California yet...

Im not talking about that. Im talking about things like partners receiving appropriate social security (survivor) benefits.

So a extending a bad idea for heterosexuals to homosexuals isn't a bad thing?

We're driving in the wrong direction. Gaining speed isn't going to make it any better.

lol. SS isnt going anywhere whether we like it or not. Since its here to stay for at least our lifetime, we may as well make sure all citizens that paid into it are treated equally.

1) SS will be "restructured" (read: bankrupt and subsequently adjusted) during our lifetimes.

2) Marriage is a marginalized institution anyway.

I need to setup a web-based service where wealthy people find suitable cross-marriages as a vehicle to transfer wealth without incurring estate taxes. I'd arrange the deals for a paltry 3% of the gross as opposed to uncle sam who wants 55%.

Yeah, no. As of last year, SS was still projected to pay out full benefits until 2040 or around there. It's safe to say that before that happens, youll see a payroll tax increase of 1.5-2%, which will more than fill the gap for an additional 30 years at least, according to the CBO.

Funny thing is that the SS numbers look better today than they did 10 years ago, and the reason for that is all of the illegal immigrants that pay into it yet receive no benefit.

At least the messicans are good for something.

Even with a payroll tax increase, the average age will have to be jacked way up and all benefits means-tested to make the numbers work.

In the projections they ran, the retirement ages were kept the same. I know that what they are trying to decide on is whether to use tax increases, raising the age, or a combo of both.

Propositions are one of the political decisions California chose to implement that helped get them into their current position; I'll cite the Roman Republic as my source.

It isn't an American principle based on principles the founders imagined....The difference between a republic and a democracy. The founders created the Constitution specifically to avoid democracy, a tyranny of the majority, and recognize basic human rights and prevent a tyranny of the majority. That's why they created the electoral college to elect the president, the state houses were supposed to elect the senators and the only direct vote was for the House of Representatives.

Give me enough money and I can get a proposition passed that bans anyone with a "bino" username on ef from marrying anyone other than a one legged Danish whore with three nipples.

fantastic post

So.... lets assume everyone that supports the courts action is ok with Government making decisions without your opinion or desire???

and

that's Taxation without representation?? I need to read more..
